Did you spot Exmoor Blondes in the March edition of the NFU British Farmer and Grower Magazine? Definitely think you should all enter the competition! There’s a bonus point if you can name the cow and calf! Thanks Moocall

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a Landrover Experience Day Held at Eastnor Castle on behalf of Jaguar Land Rover and The Prince's Countryside Fund as part of the Landrover Bursary Prize! It was a FANTASTIC day, I learnt so much about the Discovery Sport as well as driving across some brilliant obstacles! Of course I had to get the Discovery beached and stuck in a muddy, stagnant water trench... Thank you Trusty Defender and instructor Clive for pulling/digging me out! #landroverexperience #eastnorcastle #jaguarlandrover #princescountrysidefund #4x4 #adventure #temporarylossofforwardmotion #stuck #bestday #muddy #discoverysport #womendrivers #defender #rescue #somuchfun @ Land Rover Experience Eastnor

Here at exmoor Blondes, we get a lot of questions about how we name our calves. Firstly we have to follow the society’s letter for the year, then we like to follow the dam’s name best we can, and finally we like to try to follow our theme of Ancient Greek or Latin names as well as a name that is strong and stands out! For example, Lily-Rose’s calf has to be a ‘P’ and she is a flower, so we need a flower or plant beginning with P. Then to follow the theme of Ancient Greek or... Latin, and a strong name, so we searched for days on end to find her bull calve’s name which is... EXMOOR PYRUS-PYRASTA Pyrus-Pyrasta is a pear tree and is Ancient Greek, so meet Pyrus! Moocall

If you’re interested In improving your stockmanship, general welfare, animal husbandry oh and eating some really good cake...this is a fantastic course! Although advertised as more dairy based it’s incredibly useful for the beef sector as well! Had I not gone on this course I’d never have detected and saved a calf from meningitis! Save and animal and it’s paid for itself!

If you haven’t thought about investing in a MooCall devise already you really should! If it saves the life of just one calf, it’s paid for itself! We’ve been using our MooCall Calving sensor for 2 years now, it’s saved us so much time, money and of course the lives of both cows and calves and we wouldn’t be without it!

After staying up all night convinced Joyful was going to calve, she finally did at 5.50am this morning! Another beautiful little polled heifer! Up and already playing with her brothers before she was even completely dry!

Congratulations to our Farm Vets and Sponsors Mount Vets Farm Practice for Winning the annual Interbreed Beef Quiz! (Even if they did beat us) The quiz has been Running for 26 years now and saw 13 teams of 4 or 6 members representing each breed all with one common goal.. to beat the Vets!! Unfortunately they just pipped the British Charolais Cattle Society team to the post! Well done to everyone who took part it really was a brilliant night. A special thanks to David Barker for organising it, a brilliant quiz master for giving hard questions, Jack Ellicott for sorting the raffle, and of course Michael Scott Toby Hickman Robyn Westcott and Abbie Westcott for bringing the Blonde team into 7th place!

Lily-Rose has done it again! We’ve just welcomed a beautiful baby Bull calf Sired by Homozygous Polled Blonde Bull Rupari Joiner. We are so pleased with his calves so far, super easy calving, great shape, temperament, class and grow like mad! We’ve just got to think of a name for this little chap! Thank you Moocall for yet again notifying us that she was starting to calve!

🌟Very sadly I’m offering Pedigree British Blonde Heifer Doncombe Neytiri for sale.🌟
Tiri is a cracking 23rd January 2017 born heifer, she’s Halter broken, quiet, easy to do and brilliantly bred. No problems clipping, washing or drying! She has not been served yet, this is only because I want her to fit into my calving block so I wouldn’t be Ai’ing her until March. Tiri is for sale as I don’t have enough shed space for my growing herd!
... She really is a beautiful heifer who would enjoy life as a suckler or a show cow!

If you have a minute to spare please read this brilliant article about Doncombe Blondes! We are lucky enough to be good friends with David and Susan Elizabeth Knight as well as purchasing our first Blondes and foundation females Joyful and Josephina from the Doncombe herd, we couldn’t be more grateful ! The support we have received from the Knights Is unrivalled and we hope in turn that we can help another youngster like that have!

Fantastic night at the Blonde Club dinner. We managed to retain our title of Best Small Herd and Judge’s Choice with Nara, second year in a row! We were over the moon with such lovely comments about the herd from not only the judge but also attendees of the herd walk, it goes to show that all our hard work, time and effort does pay off, all made possible by the support network we have in the form of family, friends and sponsors! Not to forget the fantastic raffle prizes donated, raising a good amount for the club! Congratulations to all other prize winners! Good luck to everyone attending winter shows!
