About Halmyre Urr Ayrshires

Halmyre Urr Ayrshires are milked twice a day to produce creamy milk which is sold to Grahams Dairies and also used to make Glen Urr Ice Cream.

Halmyre Urr Ayrshires Description

The herd consists of 200 milking cows plus followers and cattle are regularly shown at local and national shows.
Breeding in the last 15 years has included Red and White bloodlines with a view to creating a more productive and marketable dairy cow, aiming to keep the percentage at about 50% Ayrshire.
Surplus heifers are regularly sold fresh calved at commercial and pedigree sales at Carlisle.
The farm itself consists of 375 acres (152 hectares) with 160 acres of silage taken for a first cut, with 120 acres second cut and 50 acres usually baled as a third cut. A further 50 acres of spring barley is harvested as whole-crop for two years and then reseeded.

Our National Champion, Mayflower, took a trip to Castle Douglas market last week to help educate local school children on food and farming... and also tell them that the milk she produces is made in to Glen Urr Ice Cream and Sorbets! The work that RHET Dumfries & Galloway Countryside Initiative is fantastic in organising events like this.

Now the dust has settled on our success at UK Dairy Day and the birthday celebrations that followed back home, we'd like to thank all of the Ayrshire Young Breeders UK for their hard work throughout the week at the show. They did a fantastic job of looking after and turning out animals for the National Ayrshire Show, including our Grand Champion, Halmyre Urr Mayflower 240 EX95-4E. Following her win of the mature cow class, she calved her seventh at the end of April. We were... absolutely delighted with Mayflower's success and are grateful for the admiration she received. Halmyre Urr Jinks 509 EX90, a Halmyre Urr Lieutenant daughter, stood second in the senior cow in milk class. While, Halmyre Urr Fancy Girl VG85, a Gwynnog Primetime daughter stood fifth in the junior heifer in milk class. Thank you once again to everyone who helped at the show and at home, allowing us all to be able to be in Telford for the show.
๐Ÿ“ธ Thank you to Cowsmopolitan Dairy Magazine and Lucinda Morgan for the photographs.
