About Lough Fadden Trout Fishery

Lough Fadden is an enchanting Trout fishery located in the stunning Murlough Bay close to Ballycastle on the North Antrim Coast.

Lough Fadden Trout Fishery Description

The Owners attempt to maintain an atmosphere here at Lough Fadden where a balance of good sport in these idyllic surrounds compliments their wish to run a commercial fishery where sportsmen can come and test their wits for a few peaceful hours fly fishing; an ideal opportunity to get closer to nature in this rapidly expanding urban world.

Invariably for first time visitors there will be an 'experienced hand' around to offer advice and guidance to fish these challenging but rewarding waters.

This little dude, a juvenile European sparrow hawk took a bit of a beating during the high winds today. Although notoriously difficult to treat we are hopeful this little serial killer will be back hunting over the Lough very soon.🦅
Wrong ID - the little raptor is a Merlin

User

Due to Winds forecast to climb to 40mph we have taken the decision to close the Lough to anglers today as it will be near impossible to fish.
See you all next week 🎣

Alfie seen here avoiding eye contact with the boss is not a happy boy, he really wants to pull out all the pegs set for the Ballynure anglers competition on the Lough tomorrow.🐶

Willy Dempster arrived on the water today with the sole aim of catching a double figured trout, it wasn’t long before his epoxy minnow was engulfed by an absolutely pristine Rainbow emptying his reel multiple times before being brought to the net 🎣

That’s a wrap from the lough, with the drop in temperature the trout are increasingly patrolling the shoreline picking of the fry providing the angler with some explosive takes and runs ..... We will be welcoming anglers back to the banks from 9am tomorrow Sunday... nite nite 🎣

The Lough was looking very inviting this morning so I’ve joined the anglers for an hour and not surprisingly the angling and the trout were both superb🎣. #properfishing #ilovemyjob

Those that know me are aware I’m one of those crazy anglers that love stormy windy conditions but taming a 12lb trout in the teeth of a gale with a five weight and size twenty two gnat is no easy feat ... the release took longer than it should due to two barbed flys being lodged in the trouts mouth and I know the boyo who uses red arsed daddies 🕵🏻‍♂️😜

User

The Lough looking gorgeous in its Autumn coat .... plenty of top of water activity today with the brownies particularly active.
Fadden will be open and welcoming anglers tomorrow Sunday from 9am 🎣

Jamie did well holding on to his trout as it teared off down passed amazed anglers for its first lap of the Lough. 🎣

Lough Fadden will always reward the angler who approaches the banks with imitative patterns, today was no exception with a size 18 fiery brown F Fly proving deadly.

Only a pro could simultaneously manage an asthma attack and a frisky Lough Fadden rainbow. Well done to Roy on both counts 🙈.

User

Was up here on sunday and i was told that this was a brillant spot but it blew mke out of the water!! beatiful setting, brillant fish and brilliant company and everyone there, owner and other fishermen alike couldn't be more helpful, can't wait to get back up!!

User

Top class Fishery with top quality fish! Would definitely be back and recommend to anyone. The location is like no other in Northern Ireland for rainbow trout fishing and the manager Shae couldn’t do enough for you, even makes fresh burgers and sausage baps which are included in the day ticket

Took a trip to Lough Fadden after reading reports about it. Natural lake on a wild and beautiful headland, got a very warm welcome from Shea the owner who filled us in on the details about the fishing.

Started of with some buzzers on a floating line and after a few casts my fishing companion landed a hard fighting 10lb plus rainbow, weather conditions was dreadful wind and rain but we managed a good lot of fish to the buzzer of 2 to 3lb hard fighting trout.

Definitely will be back to this beautiful natural lake not a round hole in the ground to encounter one of it monsters I hope.

Thanks for the superb hospitaly from a very well informed host.

Not forgetting the great 8oz salad burger that went down well on a cold wet day

Took a run up to Lough Fadden today for a first time visit. Having took about half an hour to find the place I was glad I made the effort! It was a nice change fishing a lake that's thousands of years old on top of a cliff as opposed to a man made one, there's something great about out of the way places like that, the remoteness adds to the experience.

I decided to fish natural wet flies and nymphs given my surroundings. When I started there were a few fish showing on the surface with the odd 'black thing' on the water, probably buzzers, so up went the 6wt rod with a floating line. I went for a size 10 Bibio on the dropper and, because I noticed fish in close feeding on sticklebacks as well, a sparsely tied pearl-ribbed Hare's Ear on the point. While not directly representing anything in particular but managing to look like a lot of things in some way, many who know the Hare's Ear nymph will appreciate it and the reason for tying it on the cast!

Weather conditions were changeable today to say the least and given how exposed the Lough is, it seemed to have an impact on the fishing. Regardless, within a few casts I had a good fish about 3lb or so on that gave a good account of itself which took the Bibio. Soon after I had another on the Hare's ear. A thick mist dropped in about 5 minutes, as did the temperature which seem to slow things down a bit. Despite this I managed to get another decent fish on the Bibio.

Throughout the day I had lots of interest and rose quite a few fish to the above mentioned flies and also a small black/green pearl dabbler and the Clan Chief. However none of them stuck but that didn't disappoint me. Instead I thought about the times when I used to blank literally every time I tried somewhere new!

Like the scenery, hospitality at Lough Fadden is amazing. There are many good fishery owners throughout Northern Ireland but I have to say I've never been made more welcome to anywhere. Another major plus was having a delicious 6oz burger loaded with salad and a cold juice delivered to where I and all the anglers were fishing around lunchtime!

From what I can see the owners are doing a fantastic job of managing the lough. The natural state of what is an upland hill Lough drew me to this venue and I'm obviously not the only one. It's also plain to see that there is a large head of good fish in it, the ones I caught were certainly testament to this. While you are at it it is accessible, there is a stone path some of the way round and good quality boardwalks around other parts that would otherwise be difficult to negotiate.

I'd recommend Lough Fadden to anyone and I'll definitely be back when the weather warms up a bit more, thanks for a good day out!

User

Stunning lough with hard fighting fish, weather beat us today tho managed to land 3 fin perfect fish big thanks to Shea for the warm welcome and some great tips can't wait to get back

User

So me and my friend thought we'd try lough fadden yesterday for the first time, we new nothing about the place but we weren't long on getting filled in on some of stories about the monsters that this water has produced,so I was eager to get a line in and after about 5 minutes I hit into a solid 6 pounder I've never in all my life experienced such hard fighting fish and every fish was in pristine condition,I ended up banking over 15 fish and every fish was over 4lb it was my best days fishing yet,I got speaking the Shea and he said he has plans to make lough fadden the best fishery in the country, well I'd just like to say well done to you Shea because you've already hit you're goal because it is by fare,I'll definitely be back there's a double with my name on it hehe

User

One of the most amazing fisheries I've been too. the weather was harsh with winds hitting 35mph and heavy rain but this didn't dampen are spirits. on arrival the first thing that makes this place special is the natural lough which is surrounded with outstanding scenery of the antrim coast line.

The guys who run it are a credit to lough fadden and kept us right! as myself and Stevie Mcwatters normaly fish the rivers and there advice soon payed off.

The trout here are excellent and put up a good fight, lost around 5 fish and landed 5 biggest I caught being around 3 to 4 pounds but seen some double figure fish rolling on the fry.

There hospitality is first class along with the craic.

Definitely be back to this wee gem puts the rest to shame.

Cheers lads for a great day out

Myself and thumper took r first trip to lough fadden yesterday and we were well pleased with the lake the quality and quantity of the fish ... the lake surroundings were beautiful and it was spotless ... met a few lads and the crack was brill even though wee willy struggled to catch a fish he kept us up with banter lol ... shea also welcomed us as if we were regulars and the sausage baps were a real bonus .... we will defo be back hopefully once a week and I will be recommending this place to everyone I know . ... Cheers for everything..and tightlines to all ...

User

I arrived along a bumpy track to the lough with two friends on a misty morning . I couldn't see the Lough ! It was my first time "I thought ... What sort of place have they brought me too ! " Boy Was I surprised when the mist lifted and revealed the beauty of this amazing area . The lough looked superb and the frequent splash of firing trout could be heard over the lapping water . They were free rising , supping buzzers emerging and occasionally gulping down sedges. As we waited for the evening rise, Shea's son brought us crackin burgers which were gratefully received . It was a slightly cold windy night for early August and the rise started rather late but when they started it was Amazing . I've never seen / heard such large trout so close in.......they were just superb. They fought so hard and bent my small buzzer hooks (must get stronger hooks for my next trip) Shea, the manager, was very helpful , informative and generous . I thoroughly recommend this superb fishery to anyone wanting a peaceful and entertaining days fishing. We had a memorable days fishing catching loads of superb hard fighting trout ......... And not a blob or lure ....except for Willies "mouse" in sight. Lol
