Fun Fact Friday! Did you know? ......

Why the pain in your back could be a pain in the bum!

User

Top Tip Thursday! When seated do not cross your legs, instead try to keep your weight evenly on both feet on the floor. Believe it or not your back will thank you for it (and so will your circulation 😊 )

Plantar Fasciitis (no it's not a Latin name for a plant 😊 )

Work Out Wednesday! Today is the Downward Facing Dog pose (Adho Mukha Svanasana) Benefits of Downward Facing Dog -
•Calms the brain and helps relieve stress and mild depression.... •Energizes the body. •Stretches the shoulders, hamstrings, calves, arches, and hands. •Strengthens the arms and legs. •Helps relieve the symptoms of menopause. •Relieves menstrual discomfort when done with head supported. •Helps prevent osteoporosis.
Step by Step (or prefer to watch? https://www.yogajournal.com/videos/downwa rd-facing-dog-pose
Step 1 Come onto the floor on your hands and knees. Set your knees directly below your hips and your hands slightly forward of your shoulders. Spread your palms, index fingers parallel or slightly turned out, and turn your toes under.
Step 2 Exhale and lift your knees away from the floor. At first keep the knees slightly bent and the heels lifted away from the floor. Lengthen your tailbone away from the back of your pelvis and press it lightly toward the pubis. Against this resistance, lift the sitting bones toward the ceiling, and from your inner ankles draw the inner legs up into the groins.
Step 3 Then with an exhalation, push your top thighs back and stretch your heels onto or down toward the floor. Straighten your knees but be sure not to lock them. Firm the outer thighs and roll the upper thighs inward slightly. Narrow the front of the pelvis.
Step 4 Firm the outer arms and press the bases of the index fingers actively into the floor. From these two points lift along your inner arms from the wrists to the tops of the shoulders. Firm your shoulder blades against your back, then widen them and draw them toward the tailbone. Keep the head between the upper arms; don't let it hang.
Step 5 Adho Mukha Svanasana is one of the poses in the traditional Sun Salutation sequence. It's also an excellent yoga asana all on its own. Stay in this pose anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes

Here's a quick, tasty dish that is also great for an anti-inflammatory diet!
Roasted Salmon with Orange Herb Sauce Source: epicurious.com
... Serves 6 Ingredients 1 large orange, unpeeled, sliced 1 large onion, halved, thinly sliced 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil 6 3-ounce skinless salmon fillets 3 tablespoons chopped fresh dill 1/2 cup orange juice 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice Additional unpeeled orange slices
Method Preheat oven to 400°F.
Place orange slices in single layer in 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Top with onion slices. Drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast until onion is brown and tender, about 25 minutes.
Remove from oven. Increase oven temperature to 450°F.
Push orange and onion slices to side of baking dish. Arrange salmon in center of dish. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and 1 1/2 tablespoons dill.
Spoon orange and onion slices atop salmon. Roast until salmon is opaque in center, about 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, mix orange juice, green onions, lemon juice and remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons dill in small bowl.
Transfer salmon to platter. Spoon onion alongside; discard roasted orange slices. Pour orange sauce over fish. Garnish with additional orange slices.
Optional - You can honey glaze the salmon fillets and add red peppers and chilli too if you like a bit of spice!

What Is A Deep Tissue Massage? This massage is more of a workout for tense, sore muscles that need to relax, getting to the deeper layer of muscles to stretch the fibres and relieve fatigued muscles. The movements are designed to get the blood and oxygen circulating properly to the muscles.
Whilst this is not the relaxing style of the Swedish massage and you should definitely feel the muscles being worked on, it should be a ‘good hurt’ and certainly not be painful in any way.... If you feel pain you must inform your therapist immediately.
This is the massage for you if you stay in a seated position for long periods (possibly at a computer or driving) or use repetitive actions in your job.
Deep Tissue Massage is especially good for sports enthusiasts and athletes, breaking down lactic acid that has built up due to lack of oxygen. This is the cause of the burning feeling in the muscle groups you feel when exercising. It can also cause nausea and weakness.
This massage is also very good for reducing and softening scar tissue by breaking down adhesions using cross fibre frictions ( a movement which moves the tissue transversely, separating the tissue)
Due to the work on the deep muscles it is usual to feel slightly uncomfortable or even sore for a couple of days after the massage, but this is perfectly normal and shortly afterwards the body should feel refreshed!

Top Tip Thursday! When driving, keep your hands low on the steering wheel - think '20 to 4' rather than '10 to 2' - driving this way will help relax your shoulders and prevent uneccessary tension in the neck.

Good luck to all the students (and their parents!) getting their GCSE results today! 🍀

Just came away from a deep tissue massage. Wow! Already feel the difference - the release is unreal! Suffering from shoulder pain for the last four years, even this one session the movement feels much more open and free. Justine made me feel very welcome and comfortable. She took her time, at even over ran! I shall be back! Thank you so much! Very much looking forward to my next visit. Will be recommending to everyone!

User

I have now had multiple massages at Naturally Serene, from deep tissue to Swedish which have all been equally as good. Made to feel comfortable and welcome as soon as you step into the door, would highly recommend for both a relaxing treatment or a sports massage.

User

I have just been for a Swedish full body massage and I feel completely relaxed and refreshed! Justine is so welcoming and friendly and the setting is beautiful. It was just what I needed!

User

I have had a Massage with Justine a few times now. She is a real perfectionist! She took time to go through my medical history / symptoms especially my on going back pain. The massage is wonderful as well as throughly relaxing. Her room is warm and cosy, so much so I could have fallen asleep. Would highly recommend Justine. Thank you x

User

I had the most amazing back, neck & shoulder massage with Justine. I booked in last minute and Justine kindly went out of her way to fit me in. The therapy room is cosy and warm & set in a beautiful, peaceful location. I suffer a lot with tight muscles and knots in my shoulders which Justine worked her magic on.. If I had the time and the money I'd book in every day!

Thanks very much
