Been a bit quiet on the old Instagram of late as had quite a bit of work on. Coming out the other end now though so expect a few updates over the coming days!
First one to show you is a little pendant commission constructed from a client’s inherited 1910 Edward VII gold sovereign. Didn’t want to solder a jump ring directly on top (as it would have devalued the coin), but luckily she’d also inherited a lovely 22ct gold wedding ring which when cut open, rolled thin and then res...oldered made the perfect bezel in which to mount it. Love that she’s getting married soon and this will be her ‘something old’... Such a pleasure to work on!

Currently on route home after an amazing weekend of workshops at @ofcabbages with @obbyuk. One of the highlights was seeing the excitement on my student’s faces as I showed them the technique of melting a chunk of silver on a block of charcoal so it balls up ready to be turned into a simple, but cute earring stud. It’s little tips and tricks like this that add a few more “ooohs and aaaaahs” to an already fun workshop! A couple of images of a recently finished #jewellerycommission. A client got in touch with details of an old ring she’d inherited and was keen to update a little. We decided to keep the stones as despite being quite hidden by metal, were the original ring’s best feature. Reworking them into a raw 18ct #whitegold bezel set collet ring seems to have brought them back to life! (Swipe to see images of how the original ring looked before the stones had their makeover). Having a bit of a clear out and found a big old stash of copper ring samples. Whenever I run a ring making workshop I demonstrate the process by making one out of copper wire. The process is the exactly the same as it is for silver and gold rings, but it saves me a few pennies as copper is less expensive. Handy as there’s nearly 100 samples in this one tub alone! Perhaps I should start a side business in making some chunky copper chainmail with my leftovers. Monday funday! Found a nice lapis cabachon tucked away in a drawer last week so thought I’d give it a new lease if life and create a simple bezelled ring for it to sit in. Another lovingly resized and polished ring to share a few photos of today. This one was for a friend who’d inherited his great-great-grandmother’s beautiful #18ctyellowgold #signetring. The hand engraving on the underside says her name ‘Mill’ and the year ‘1917’. Over 100 years of wear and tear meant it was quite rough around the edges, but after some TLC and a resize it’s now sitting proudly on his finger. Quick weekend resize and polish on my buddy’s #18ctwhitegold wedding ring. Made this one last year as part of ‘his and hers’ #weddingring set, but his working as a stuntman in the film industry meant it’s taken a good few knocks since then! Luckily gold is wonderful to work with and so it’s now looking just as good as the day it was first made. Back in London for a weekend of #jewelleryworkshops which means a lot of errands to run beforehand over in Hatton Garden. London’s jewellery quarter is home to more than just jewellery shops though... Behind every closed door, along every back alley and above every shop are huge numbers of skilled craftsmen and craftswomen beavering away polishing, engraving, hallmarking, plating, shaping, soldering and generally doing all manner of incredibly intricate jewellery type things.... Testament to this are my freshly #goldplated ‘big and little sister’ Mars and Saturn rings by the good people at Elliot Fitzpatrick. Not having the facilities to plate my own work means I’m reliant on a third party to do the honours and the work that these guys do always comes out tops! Now, where’s the post office?
