South West Water have repaired the mains water leak discovered last week during improvement work close to the Shaldon Bridge junction of the A379 Bitton Park Road in Teignmouth. However, further investigation into the drainage issues have found the problem to be more extensive than first thought.

As a result we have decided to slightly delay the planned improvement work in the Shaldon Bridge junction area so as much of the work as possible can be co-ordinated and the bridge... won’t need to be closed for as many nights.

This means that the planned overnight closure of Shaldon Bridge and the junction with the A379 Bitton Park Road has been pushed back to later this week. The bridge will now remain open until at least Thursday night when, depending on how work progresses to fix the drainage issues, a decision will be made about when to reinstate the overnight closure in order to continue the resurfacing and improvement work.

We apologise for the disruption caused and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

We apologise for the frequent nature of the updates but with some many different aspects to the work things need to be quite fluid to ensure things are carried out in the most efficient and cost effective manner. I would appreciate any assist from yourself and those copied in, in spreading the work as far as possible. Thank you.

Subject: FW: Bitton Park Road - Programme updates.
UPDATE UPDATE EVERYBODY **************************
Good Evening,
... We have released some information to the public which I thought would be useful to pass on the your respective councils, see below for the statement released by our comms team;
Just to update you on some unforeseen issues that mean we’ve had to make some slight changes to the planned overnight closure on the A379 Bitton Park Road in Teignmouth and Shaldon Bridge over the next few days.
A water leak and potential drainage issues have been discovered during improvement work close to the Shaldon Bridge junction on the A379 Bitton Park Road in Teignmouth.
We are talking to South West Water about fixing the problem during the existing overnight road closure planned for the improvement scheme.
However, this means Shaldon Bridge will closed for an additional two nights, from 7pm until 7am on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th February.
In addition, the overnight road closure on Friday (22nd) will be in place later than advertised. The road will close at 11pm rather than 7pm to coordinate with the planned work taking place in Kingskerswell on the A380 South Devon Highway, which is part of the official diversion route. Shaldon Bridge will remain open.
Tonight (Wednesday 20th Feb): A379 closure as planned (7pm – 7am). Shaldon bridge Closed.
Thursday (21st Feb): A379 closure as planned (7pm – 7am). Planned closure of Shaldon bridge (Depending on progress it is possible the bridge could be open if work has been completed – residents are advised to refer to closure and diversions signs).
Friday (22nd Feb): A379 closure later than planned at 11pm rather than 7pm. Shaldon Bridge open.
Saturday (23rd Feb): No closure.
Sunday (24th Feb): No closure.
Monday (25th Feb): A379 closure as planned (7pm – 7am). Shaldon Bridge closed.
Tuesday (26th Feb): A379 closure as planned (7pm – 7am). Shaldon Bridge closed.
It is possible the road could be reopened before 7am, but this is at the contractors discretion and will be reviewed on a night by night basis based on the progress of work.
We have been working with the comms team to put messages out via the DCC social media channels to let residents know about these changes, and hope you will also help spread the word.
Please get in contact if you have any questions.
Kind Regards
Mike

Hello Everybody
Please see a update from Cllr Dewhirst who has kindly brought me up to speed with the Teignmouth Road Works and Marine Parade.
Dear Karen
... There seems to have been a lot of confusion about road works on the other side . . . They should have contacted you with the details but just in case that has not happened . . .
SHALDON BRIDGE CLOSURE Lot's of confusion about the roadworks .. Shaldon Bridge will be CLOSED from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd February (inclusive) Nights only from 7:00 pm - 7:00 am If the works go extra quickly, and there are no problems, then it may finish a little earlier. The diversion will be via Torquay for heavier vehicles and cars can divert through Combeinteignhead.
From Monday 25th February to Friday 15th March Bitton Park Road from the bridge lights will be closed to all through traffic. There will be gatekeepers to allow the emergency services through at all times. There are numerous side streets that come off the closure and they will obviously have to have access which will be monitored by the gatekeepers. The roads will all be open during the day The roads will be open to all blue light services at all times and obviously they have been notified.
You will also have seen that work has started on Marine Parade putting new footings on the seawall. It is the same contractor who did the work on the seaward side of the wall and so they are used to working here. The contractor hopes to be out much quicker than the contract period - so fingers crossed on that one.

Devon County Council will be carrying out essential repair work to the sea wall along Marine Parade, Shaldon commencing on 11th February 2019 for approximately 7 weeks. The main contractor carrying out these works will be South West Highways Ltd.
Due to limited working space, they need to close the road and therefore Marine Parade will be closed from Shaldon House out to the Ness. The works will coincide with the tides; therefore, they will only close the road when required to prevent unnecessary obstruction. A diversion route will be in place via A379, for more information please go to roadworks.org (ref: DG997-EDGSP-MPSHALDON)

The wind is whipping up, please don’t forget to check your dinghies, and possessions take care everyone

As you all know the weight limit on the bridge is very necessary, but with no buses it is very difficult for people who normally need public transport to get to Teignmouth. Just to let you know we have been speaking with the MPs office and we are desperate to get a suitable situation. If anyone lives next door to someone who they know uses the bus and you are taking a trip to Teignmouth for shopping etc please if you have a empty seat in your car consider asking your neighbour if they would like a trip to the shops. Thanks everyone

User

I trust all your dinghies will be ok in this storm and I hope they are secure, please if you do see anything let us know so we can contact the owner. Take care everyone
