The stunning Harley, one of our margay, showing off his feather plucking skills. Margay are perfectly at home in the trees and birds would definitely be on the menu in the wild.

Well done to all of you who found our Easter eggs hidden around the zoo in our Easter competition - we had over 200 entries!!
Our lucky winner is Cody Jones who has won a Junior Adoption of Fraggle our beautiful Golden Lion Tamarin!
If you would like to be in with a chance of winning your own junior adoption just fill out our Junior Explorer quiz next time you’re at the zoo and be entered into our monthly competition!

Did you know that we have over 30 volunteers here at the zoo. From admissions to gardening, maintenance to animal care. We love that so many people want to give back to a small charity such as ourselves.
Here's Eddie, one of our animal care volunteers, making some feeding platforms for our slender lorises.

Everyone's loving the sun this bank holiday weekend!

Sun's out, ring-tailed lemurs out

One of our smallest residents but also one of the cutest, Aussie and his girlfriend Ava, love greeting our guests as they walk into the zoo.

The most trafficked species in the world, pangolins are hunted for their scales for use in traditional medicine. Save Vietnam's Wildlife rescue hundreds of them a year, rehabilitate them and release them back into safe areas. We were honoured to see them when we were recently in Vietnam.

We've been left some presents that we've hidden around site! Plymouth Pebble Art UK Rocks of Swindon

Carly and Zak caught up with a very special boy whilst they were in Vietnam, Phan Tiet. He was sent from Shaldon to Save Vietnam's Wildlife centre back in 2013 and it was amazing to see how well he was getting on.

User

Pepe has a new friend! Say hello to Aurora, an endangered golden headed lion tamarin who recently joined us from Bristol Zoo Gardens. They're off show at the moment whilst they get to know one another but will be on show soon!

User

The ultimate baby shot! Why not come see our little titi monkey this Easter holidays

User

And they're back! Carly and Zak have returned from an incredibly packed trip to Vietnam. Taking part in developing a conservation plan for Owstons civets, seeing the amazing work at Save Vietnams Wildlife and more!

User

Our titi's love sunbathing and you can even see one of our newest residents climbing from mom to dad.
A titi monkey family will all help look after a new baby, that's how other young titi monkeys learn how to look after babies before going off to start a family of their own.

Easter is nearly upon us! We're all (staff and animals) hoping for some good weather. Why not come check out our latest babies, our new armadillos Diglett and Tamara and take part in our Easter activities. Don't forget now spring is here we're also open till 5pm!

Carly our head keeper is currently working out at the Save Vietnam's Wildlife centre in Vietnam. Here she is building bamboo enrichment for many of their animals.

User

Today marks a special occasion as our director, Zak, and head keeper, Carly are in Vietnam working with Save Vietnam's Wildlife. Zak is attending the first ever Conservation Planning meeting for the endangered Owstons civets whilst Carly is at Save Vietnams Wildlife Rescue Centre in Cuc Phuong.

Unfortunately you have lost an hour in bed and feel like our Pygmy marmosets but you have gained an hour in the zoo as we are now in our summer time and close at 5:00pm.

Looking to do something wild this Easter? We have still some slots available for our Meet the Meerkats and Lemur Liaison. https://shaldonwildlifetrust.digitickets. co.uk/tickets

Some amazing footage from Projeto Sauim De Coleira - UFAM of wild pied tamarins using bridges across the roads of Manaus, Brazil. Due to rapid expansion of the city there has been an increase in tamarins being hit by cars so these bridges are invaluable for saving lives and ensuring the tamarins can get to the various forest patches around the city.

Wonderful little gem in Shaldon! The primate enclosures in particular are exceptional and having 3 of 8 loris species was a bonus. Animals appear very well cared for and for the size of the collection the enclosures are wonderful. The signage is also great, especially the capuchin language sign! Overall a wonderful visit. Great to see another zoo doing so well, and the conservation work undertaken is inspiring. Keep up the good work guys!

User

We took our boys for their Junior Keeper day yesterday and had a fabulous time!! The boys got up close and personal with lots of the animals and our guide for the day, Amelia, really knew her stuff and was full of interesting facts! The boys learned a lot and thorough enjoyed themselves. All the keepers and staff we met were super friendly and welcoming. It might be a small zoo but it has a big heart and a huge welcome!!

User

We took my mother on her 85th birthday as she has not been for 20+ years,, a fantastic day was had by ALL 6 of us , the youngest only 7,, we would all highly recommend it and mum is already looking forward to return visit,

User

We loved it here, and luckily we arrived at in time to see the animals' feeding time

We particularly loved the monkeys, nocturnal room, poison frogs and meerkats.

The shop at the end was full of reasonably priced keepsakes, the kids enjoyed the quizzes on the way around & the icing on the cake was George winning the stag beetle quiz which means he now has free entry for a year plus has 'adopted' a capuchin monkey! Excellent value

User

We had a junior keeper experience today and it was amazing! Helen our guide was brilliant, so enthusiastic, passionate and full of knowledge. It was 'the best birthday present ever'! Thank you so much for a fantastic day xxx

User

We chose Shaldon for my daughter's 11th birthday pressy zoo experience day. She had an absolutely wonderful time, got to learn about and interact with lots of animals including frogs/monkey's/birds/snails/cockroaches, lemurs and tortoises. She is very interested in animals and zoo keeping and really enjoyed her day. Staff were very friendly and the experience was very good value for money. Thank you all for a lovely day X

User

We came today for my sons birthday! He was a junior keeper for the day and what a fantastic day it was Amelia our guide was full of knowledge and clearly loved her job!!! My boy has come away glowing.....I would highly recommend this as a gift

User

Took a 3 and 4 year old here and we all loved it. It’s a nice size and all animals were easy to see from their height. The free booklets given out to collect stamps in were a big hit as well! Thank you for a lovely couple of hours.

User

Perfect for my daughter and better than I remembered as a child.

The knowledge from the keepers is amazing. The dedication is inspiring.

It's a small zoo but you can learn a lot. The capuchins are a must. I could watch ring-tailed lemurs all day. My favourite animal.

My daughter loves David Attenborough and is a real whizz with animals and conservation and care etc. Going somewhere like shaldon where you can get up close to the animals is perfect for youngsters. Yes it's not as big as Paignton but it's still just as important. Well done we can't wait to come back. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

User

Only just found out about this little gem this year... Went twice while on holiday recently. Lovely staff/volunteers, happy animals with well kept enclosures. Very enjoyable. Although small, you still need time to take in all the antics of the animals and birds and the feedings times etc. Well worth a visit! I'll be going again next year. Loved it!

User

I would just like to say a huge thank you for making my son Alex have an amazing Junior Keeper day on 25th Oct something he'll never forget. Helen & Eve (apologies if I got names wrong) were brilliant, Think the highlight for him was feeding the Saki's. Primates are his favourite & he wants to work with them when he's older so this day was a dream come true for him. If we're ever back down that way I'm sure doing this again will be at the top of his list. Thank you

User

I have visited the zoo several times over the yeaes and love thevwork they do. A great little zoo with helpful and informative staff that are always happy to discuss more with you. Doesnt take long to walk around so always good to being a picnic and take down to Ness beach.

User

Had a fab enjoyable visit today with my daughter who works at another local zoo, your animal enclosures look so inviting and spotlessly clean, your info posts are clear and precise and interesting to read, the whole atmosphere is lovely, all staff were friendly and took time to answer questions, we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be coming back, looking forward to seeing the continued development of the site :)

User

Great little zoo. We had the meerkats experience which was thoroughly enjoyable and Steve the zoo keeper was very informative & friendly . Didn't feel rushed...even the meerkats enjoyed it !! Included in our pack was a meerkat adoption and a years free entry to the zoo. Keep up the good work for conservation .

User

First time I visited the zoo despite living in South Devon for years, it really is a gem. We went on the Meerkat experience and got to feed them. Was fun, interesting and the zookeepers were really friendly and well-informed. Well worth the trip.

User

Been coming to Devon for some years but never been here. So had a trip to see it and was impressed and that they are doing there bit for conservation. You can have a walk round and if you want go out and come back to see the rest of the animals on that day. Well worth a visit.

User

An excellent JUNIOR ZOOKEEPER experience. Can't thank the team enough. Easy to buy voucher, to redeem and organise dates!! We had a lovely welcome, and straight on with the tour! Lovely Leah started the morning experience - Lemurs, Monkeys, Meerkats etc. Then Dexter took over after lunch. Stick Insects, Millipede, Lizard, Agouti, Civits. Nice little goodie bag and certificate too. An amazing experience. Up close and personal with some lovely animals. Thank You ShaldonWildlifeTrust.

User

A small and very well kept zoo, ideal for little people. Location is great , on a good day see the zoo, outside for picnic by the sea and then return to zoo. Little ones and grandad happy

User

Visited a couple of times now. Lovely small zoo, built among the trees. Take your time and suggest you take advantage of the free re-entry to go back later as we saw some of the animals that weren't visible first time around. If you are looking for big game animals then this isn't for you. But smaller animals, in a more intimate and close up attraction, then it's great. Each time we have visited its not been overly crowded, like to get with some of the bigger zoos, so there's less of a push and shove or rush to get a view of the animals.

Strongly recommend a visit and the entry costs are very reasonable compared with most other attractions in the area.
