Sheldon House Monyash

We got out for another walk down lovely Lathkill Dale yesterday afternoon. This time we took the high path through Ricklow quarry and above the Dale. Beautiful countryside here in Derbyshire, even with grey skies and the trees not quite in leaf. With the weather getting warmer (and hopefully brighter!), why not take a short break to explore Lathkill yourself? Great B&B here at Sheldon House, or there's Sheldon Barn if you prefer to be self-contained.

Our hens have been laying intermittently over the winter months, but it seems another one is starting again - taking a bit of practice to get it right though...😅. A reminder that Easter is on its way.

Amazing weather in the Derbyshire/Staffordshire borders this week. We took a day out to explore Chrome Hill (colloquially known as the Dragon's Back) and Parkhouse... a great day's walking. Why not book a visit to our B&B or self-catering holiday let and explore this beautiful countryside?

Beautiful Derbyshire. And all within a few minutes walk from Sheldon House. Just right for an early morning walk before breakfast or an after dinner stroll before bed

It's that time of year again! Opened the last jar of marmalade this weekend so time to make more for our 2019 guests. Not sure that they'll eat this much though!

Having heard so much about this walk from some of our guests we decided to try it for ourselves in early January. Here are some photos to give an idea of what it's like in the winter. I imagine it's equally lovely in the summer though probably busier. It took us three and a half days but would be quite possible in 3 in summer with more daylight. Some people take it more gently and take 4 or 5 or even 6 days. Sheldon House is right on the route which is why we get so many pilgrims staying with us.

Beautiful wintry landscape perfect for beating those New Year blues with a brisk walk. Time to book a weekend away at Sheldon House!

Preparing for Christmas...

Our first winter in Monyash and the weather has turned wetter after an amazing summer. Out for a walk down Lathkill Dale this morning - the last time we were there I took my 2-year-old grandson right into the then dry cave to explore, I wouldn't be doing that now!

Autumn at Sheldon House. The ancient Hawthorn, and other trees have lost their leaves giving us a huge pile of potential leaf mould. Holes have been dug to plant new roses and the hens are moulting and looking a bit bedraggled in the damp weather. Dandelion however has decided spring is in the air and is laying eggs like summer is just around the corner....

Delighted to have had our first group booking this weekend. Three lovely families from a church in Birmingham - 6 adults and 6 children but soon to be 8. Our very best wishes to the two mums expecting babies in the next two weeks or so. We look forward to hearing and to maybe welcoming 14 of you here one day!
