Booked a table for Sumday lunch for 4 for 1pm. Arrived at 12.30 and were seated straight away while we waited for the rest of out party to arrive. Although the service in general was slower than we are used to, the standard of service was very good. It was nice to have that wait between mains and desserts due to the fact that the portion size was nothing to be sniffed at and we needed the time to let it go down a bit. Food quality was very good and prices were reflective of that. Worked out around £32 per head including a couple of rounds of drinks. Will be going back when the weather is better to enjoy the garden and riverside view

User

We booked a table fr my birthday after reading lots of good reviews. When we arrived we waited ten minutes or so to be shown to our table.... in the end we helped ourselves to one as no one even acknowledged us. We then waited Atleast 20/30 minutes for a drinks order to even be taken. We had to wait for quite some time for a food order to be taken. All the food when it arrived was great, there were no complaints about that. We had to wait 30 minutes for dessert when we were one of the few tables left. It was clear to see that there were only two staff running front of house & with most of our table working in hospitality/ chefs at a 5* club we didn’t really think this was acceptable. We didn’t even get an apology. We probably will come again, to see if it was a fluke and just a really bad day where everyone called in sick or something. I hope that was the case. If it wasn’t for the very slow service it would be a 5*! Sorry

Came in yesterday around 14.30 waited to be served took drinks outside to find table to order food, got told kitchens closed and a sign was then put on the bar. Asked if Any Food being served was told no even though the sign in your car park clearly says cake and coffee all day.

Sat there for around 40 mins and drank our drinks to watch everyone around us be brought food to their table even people who had come after. Take signs in if u shut kitchen save people the task of parking and buying drinks

User

Well we got there and had to wait for quite a while to order a drink and our food. Two of us had breaded brie and the other two had scallops. Three starters arrived and the waiter said "enjoy". We had to ask for the last starter to come out.

Starter and main were nice. We waited over 30 mins for main plates to be cleared and offered the pudding menu. One ordered the melting golden chocolate orange bomb. When it was brought out the chocolate bomb did not melt and all that was in it was a scoop of ice cream does that really warrant £7.95

So our bill came and the 3 scallops and 3 slices of chorizo for starter cost £10.50 but if you had scallops added to the pork belly it only costs an extra £4.50 how can this be? My friend asked for a pint of cider on tap you ran out then she ordered venison no you didn't have any, then ordered the crumble with cream and guess what no cream and came out with a dollop of ice cream on the top with the waiter saying "we haven't got cream is ice cream alright" well it's too late it's on the pudding. It would of been nice to be told before looking through the main menu what isn't available rather than the disappointment.

This was such a shame after a special occasion ended up a disappointment. Thanks to the waitress who was very understanding and the only helpful one.

User

Service was extremely slow. Took over an hour to get our meal. I ordered a chicken, avocado and bacon salad but it was more like a shaved carrot and cucumber salad with one piece of bacon, tiny amount of avocado and small chicken cutlet. The chicken was boiled with some pepper on it. Very unappealing and bland.

User

My friend booked a table of us both at your pub. We arrived at 12.30 and were seated fairly quickly. He asked for outside seating but we were showing to a table inside. When querying this we were told 'you have to go to the bar' to order of we sat outside, for the prices of food and drink, table service was needed. It took 10 minutes for our drinks order to be taken. I asked for 2 different ciders to be told you were sold out, so I had a Bellini, pleasant enough. Our food order was taken and took 40+ minutes for our starter to arrive, the squid was nice. It then took a further 40-50 minutes for our main to come out after asking where it was. In this time no further drinks were offered, no apology, the roast was finally bought to us and it was alright, on par with a carvery but presented nicely. 20 minutes passed and no offer of drinks, desserts, or having our empty cutlary taken away. We finally asked for a drink and our bill, I asked for 'coca cola' and 30 minutes later was served pepsi, not aware of this otherwise I would have ordered a lemonade, but no bill? Our dinner empties still hadn't been taken. We had to flag a random waitress down for this bill. She said she'd inform our waitress, we then had to flag her down ourselves and finally got the bill with no apology for any of the waiting or forgetting to get our bill. We took our drinks outside to enjoy the sun finally. To be met with tables full of old cutlery and plates, customers resulted to putting the cutlery near the bin which several waiters and waitresses had passed and just left it there. Didn't leave till 15.30. 2 courses and 2 lots of drinks should not have taken this long to be served, nor should we of spent most of the time enquiring and asking for stuff ourselves. Poor service, will not be back even though the setting is beautiful. Maybe if you're charging these mid range prices. It got to the point I almost walked out without paying because it took so long to get the bill.

User

Just had lunch at the mill it’s certainly not the place it used to be!!!

The place is in need of a lick of paint and good spring clean to bring it back to its former glory.

Food we had was very disappointing. Line caught cod in beer batter with twice cooked chips a spoon full of pea purée and tartare sauce all of this red hot!!!! Yes it’s microwave food along with lamb kofta that was microwaved and a very small portion.

Ordered a flat bread with hummus for my grandson only to be given a tortilla wrap cut up into pieces.

The price of drinks is way to expensive....

To be fair the manager dealt with our complaints in a very fair and professional manner but that aside it was such a let down compared to the good times we have had there in the past.

Like I said at the beginning give it all a lick of paint and clean up change the menus back to good old in house cooking and leave the microwave food out of it and you will be back on top again.

I know it all takes time and money to run a business like this but you have to invest in your appearance and staff along with food that makes people come back and not left feeling let down.

I hope for the mills sake that it gets back to its former glory as the place so deserves to be full of people.

It was a hot day and we arrived at 7.30 the outside was a mess with litter empty glasses and finished dinner plates not cleared away.

My beer was served in a filthy glass, my 1st and 2nd choice of main courses were not available starter was ok though, didn’t fancy a dessert

First and last visit to this place. Younger staff rude. Dont appreciate our food being thrown at us. If you dont like your job.....Macdonalds are always hiring. Had to wait an hour for 2 salads to arrive. 45 mins for a cappuccino......not sure what thats all about. Scruffy looking from the car park. Piles of rubbish in the kitchen doorway. Garden funiture falling to bits........replace or get rid before someone injures themselves. Has all the makings of a good place but sadly rough around the edges.

User

We stopped by today for Sunday lunch and we waited over and hour half for food... when it arrived the roast chicken looked anaemic, with vegetables that looked like it was ready for the compost, 1 1/2 roast potatoes that were burnt as well as the Yorkshire pudding. It was suppose to be wrapped in bacon and stuffing and it didn’t resemble it at all. The salads were browning. Another thing was the tables were filthy and covered in glasses, the staff had no rush about them, they would quite happily walk past tables filthy with not one bit of interest in clearing it. I am beyond disappointed as this used to be incredible place to eat.

User

Truly truly awful, your only getting one star so that I could leave a review, dirty tables, stone cold food, overpriced crap !!!!!! So many staff but no one cleaned our table, no one asked if food was ok, twice cooked chips needed to be cooked 3 times to get some warmth into them, we were not the only ones complaining, all around us were having bad meals too, so we left ours and popped half a mile up the road to chef and brewer for pudding, OMG amazing crumble

User

They forgot our order. When the food arrived 70 minutes after ordering out food only 3 of the 4 mains arrived. The food was cold and trying to sort it out with the bar staff was virtually impossible. I’ll not be returning sadly. Such a shame because it’s a perfect location.

Premium prices, rock bottom service!

User

Sorry to say .. dirty tables, poor service (had to ask for the table to be cleared and it still wasn’t so cleared - cleared it myself), so slow at the bar, Husband’s chips were cold, as were the blokes in the next table - he complained and then waited over 20 mins for replacement chips (still waiting when we left) ... loads of staff wandering around, one lad working hard, really poor service

User

Service is awful, I work in hospitality and never have experienced such an unorganised mess. Waited for 20 minutes for a pint because the barman was too busy chatting to his friend, and once decided on food, waited in line to order, just to be told there was no food being served for the rest of the night. No notice of this when we asked for menus once we were finally served our beer. And even worse no apology or explanation!

User

Popped in for lunch this bank holiday Monday, for a spot of lunch with friends. We understand that it very busy due to the weather being so lovely. Once we had found a table to sit at, it was covered with the pervious peoples empty plates and glasses. No waiters to be seen. Had to clear our own table. Then our partners had to que for 30/40 to order a drink! Once we hunted a menu down we could finally order our food, another 40 min que, to then find half the food we wanted had ran out.. the waiter (whom seemed to be the man in charge that day) spoke to us very rudely, and practically threw the receipt at us. After paying our bill we was then told “because you’ve had starters your going to waiting a long time” think they should have some decency to tell us this before hand and we could have gone somewhere else! The price that you charge, should allow you to employ more staff to counter for the busy bank holiday weekend, where people could receive high standard of service. Since our last visit this place has gone down hill, unfortunately we won’t be returning again.

I'll be straigjt to the point:

NOT COMING BACK. I feel they wasted my money.

Frequent customer, service unacceptable today. Tables were filthy. We were told there was a 60 minute wait on food which we were willing to wait, however I was served a stone cold trio of roasts. Willing to wait for a decent meal but food was inedible. Food actually took 90 mins. All 3 meats were stone cold and dry. Replacement meal took 40 minutes. 30 minute wait at the bar for drinks. They don't seem to be able to handle it when the sun is out! Usually my favourite place to go out for food but I won't be returning, not when it's sunny.

Sorry

User

It’s ok! Great location, could be amazing! Chain pub so constantly changing staff and mangers. Chef changes a lot si food very hit and miss. Whatever u do, don’t eat there on a hot day! Food will be shocking and have to wait 1hr!!

Shame it’s my local pub!

User

It was unfortunately very BAD yesterday

I think the staff actually hate working there tbh !!! Could be amazing but noone seemed to be in charge or actually care ... such a shame as it’s such a beautiful spot !!

More staff for the summer and some good customer service training needed and it will be spot on

User
