Making his 5th annual appearance at the beautiful Cruck Barn in Appletreewick, Ian McNabb is set to entertain us all again with his superb songs, excellent guitar-playing and brilliant stage-presence. Ian will be singing songs from his time in legendary 80's Liverpool band, The Icicle Works, as well as songs from across his solo career and his latest album, Our Future In Space. The only person other than Neil Young to front the legendary Crazy Horse (on his Mercury-Prize no...minated album 'Head Like A Rock' and on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury), Ian has worked with a who's-who of the music industry. From Mike Scott and The Waterboys to Ringo Starr, Ian's unique talents have always been in high demand. It is a real coup that we've managed to get Ian to play for us again on what has become a Christmas Dales tradition. This show sells very quickly, so do not delay!
Award-winning duo Plumhall are our hosts for the evening and will be playing an opening set consisting entirely of material from their second album 'The Ghost Of Noise'. Michelle is an ex-member of Chumbawamba and is currently touring the world with the Chris Norman Band. Nick has toured the world as a session player with Magna Carta and is a member of Dales-based legends, The Hall Brothers. Together they have sung with Al Stewart at the London Palladium and have won many plaudits for their harmonies, superb musicianship and award-winning songs.

A welcome return to the Cruck Barn after too long a gap for the fantastic Ian Prowse with support from Plumhall As the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of Pele, Ian took strongly melodic and political songs onto a major label and into the charts (even scoring a number one hit in South Africa). As soon as Pele split, Ian started work on his next band, Amsterdam, who recorded the amazing 'Does This Train Stop On Merseyside' - which regularly reduced the legendary John Peel...

We stayed this weekend in the Shepherd huts at the back of the pub. It was the annual beer festival. We have had such a good time! The huts are delightful with all the creature comforts of home:- comfy double bed, underfloor heating, toilet and heavenly hot showers! Just what was needed on rainy, windy weekend. The pub itself is a little gem with it's open fires, gas lights and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Great food, great staff, this place really does have it all and I can't wait to come back!

User

We stayed here last night, something different to celebrate my husbands Birthday. The Shepherds hut was fantastic, everything you could need. Something different than a b&b. We had tea in the Craven Arms. Fantastic service from the staff. Food was excellent. We both had the fish and chips and it was the best we’ve had in along time. We really enjoyed just being able to sit and chill with a drink in a real pub with a fire. Was nice to see people fetching their dogs in too and that they were welcomed. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will be back.

We love the Craven Arms. We don’t live locally but manage to get there half a dozen times a year - it’s our go to place in the Dales for a bit of lunch. However, we were there yesterday and weren’t impressed by John behind the bar and a bit of a sly trick he used. We were among three or four groups waiting for a table. We knew who each other were and had a reasonable idea of the pecking order. Then another party came in. John had a conversation with them (which we didn’t hear). One of the party then (Debbie McGee lookalike) sat on the window seat between 2 tables. She looked a bit wedged in and I’m certain it was uncomfortable for the diners already there (space and socially awkward). As soon as one table emptied she pounced - leaving those who’d been waiting a while a bit jaw dropped. When the rest of her party were seated she went to the bar - John said “see - told you it would work”. Not impressed we left and ate at Alexander’s in Skipton. Very good btw. Come on Craven Arms get a better way of seating your random walk in customers (yes I know I could have booked - but it was a last minute run out). We will be back - we love the place. Maybe a free pint wouldn’t go amiss next time?

As the celebrant from Starr Gazing Ceremonies, I had the honour of performing a wedding ceremony at Cruck Barn at The Craven Arms which is indeed a very special wedding venue. It has a wonderful blend of historical architecture and countryside elegance that is enhanced fully by the extremely helpful and enthusiastic staff that are always keen to ensure everything goes perfectly. I received a wonderful welcome from the staff and thoroughly enjoyed performing a wedding ceremony in the cosy and beautiful barn that has a truly unique ambience for your special day!

We had a birthday family meal here yesterday, and this was our first visit to The Craven Arms. We all really enjoyed our food. A lovely family friendly pub! We will definitely be coming back again.

User

We come here every year and the food has always been lovely but we came back for a family meal last weekend and the food was outstanding.

We enjoyed it that much that we are coming back this weekend too! Hats off to the chefs, can’t wait to see the menu at the weekend.

The best pub in Yorkshire and I've sampled many. Great beer, especially the Old Peculiar, great food, great atmosphere and outstanding location.

The Shepherd Huts are cool too.

Richard, Tilly and the whole team at the Craven arms went above and beyond to look after me and my husband on our wedding day. They decorated the barn perfectly, the food was exceptional they even cleaned my wedding dress for me when a guest spilt red wine right down the front of me!!.

We have been regular visitors of the craven since booking our wedding jan 2016. And intend to be for the rest of our lives. The team never fail to give a warm welcome and consinstantly top notch friendly service leaving you with a smile on your face planning your return.

I really cant recommend this place enough with its qurky enviroment and friendly staff its stolen a peice of my heart.

Thank you everyone.

Our stay in the Shepherd Huts was amazing from start to finish & when the chefs were unable to get to work because of the snow the staff rustled us up a feast of soup and huge doorstop sandwiches! Thank you so much!

Had a pork and veggie lasagne here, was super delicious. Highly recommended

Four of us had a superb meal on New Year's Eve, in front of a log fire in the beautifully decorated crook barn. The service was very good and the food was delicious. As we were only visiting the area, it may be a while but we will definitely be back!

Amazing place, friendly atmosphere, I had a couple of their special lager and steak and ale pie, thoroughly enjoy the experience, a lovely oldy oldy type of place ..

Absolute gem of a find. Fantastic food. I had a dish called fur, fin and feather! In other words beautiful sirloin steak, tempura king prawns and duck croquettes with a cream chilly sauce. Sounds odd but was out of this world. Really friendly and funny staff. One to keep in our itinerary of places to visit xx
