About The Geese And Fountain

The Geese and Fountain is a traditional village inn listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, serving the best in local real ales and delicious locally sourced food, with seven en suite B& B rooms.

The Geese And Fountain Description

The Geese and Fountain is a traditional welcoming village pub in the lovely Leicestershire village of Croxton Kerrial, five miles west of Grantham and the A1, and nine miles east of Melton Mowbray.

This recently re-opened village inn has a real fire, and a quiet and welcoming atmosphere. There is no juke box or fruit machine, but occasional folk nights supplement the hum of conversation. Dogs, children, cyclists and walkers are all very welcome.

An ever-changing array of locally-produced real ales, craft beers, lagers and ciders have seen the Geese and Fountain included in the 2017 CAMRA Good Beer Guide, after being open less than a year. The pub was recently awarded the Vale of Belvoir CAMRA Branch 'Leicestershire Pub of the Year' title for 2017.

The pub serves breakfast, lunch, bar snacks and dinner seven days a week (including a fixed price Sunday lunch offering a choice of locally reared meats or vegetarian roasts with all the usual accompaniments and more for £14. 50 for two courses or £18. 50 for three). The home-made ice cream (created using cream from the Belvoir Ridge dairy just three miles from the pub) is just fantastic.

There are seven en suite letting rooms for Bed & Breakfast, each with its own individual style. Perfectly situated for visitors to Melton, Grantham, Rutland Water, the Vale of Belvoir, Leicester or Nottingham, or travellers heading up or down the A1, the pub is an ideal destination for cyclists, walkers and bird-watchers.

Had the most delicious lunch yesterday at fellow Grantham Journal Business Awards shortlisted @leadenhamteahouse. It's a beautiful place, the food is top notch and it was a real delight to meet people so passionate about creating a special food experience for their customers.

This is just about the coolest thing ever. Apples from the tree in Sir Isaac Newton's garden at Woolsthorpe Manor (yes, *that* tree) have arrived for us to make some very special apple pies. Thanks @nationaltrust !

The traffic outside the Geese and Fountain can be worrying. Croxton Kerrial is a small, quiet village but the A607 is anything but quiet.
The speed with which some cars and lorries go past the pub is, frankly, terrifying, so we're very pleased to support this initiative by parish councillor Peter Kinvig. A community speed watch project will help to slow down the traffic through the village, making it safer for kids going to school, people walking around the village, and those on their way to or from the village store or the pub.
Please get involved if you can, by contacting Peter on 879284.

UPDATE: Due to bad weather in New York, the game has been postponed by six hours, to a midnight start, UK time. Sorry, but we won't be able to show it now. We'll try to show some more baseball before the end of the season.

Something different at the Geese & Fountain tonight. If you're interested in baseball, even a little bit, you'll know that tonight's game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees is likely to be special. And it's at a perfect time for UK viewing.... And it's being broadcast on Facebook Live!
If you don't know anything about baseball, there's no better game to get your first taste than by watching the Red Sox visit New York - these two teams have arguably the fiercest rivalry in all of professional sport, And with Boston currently sitting ten games ahead of New York in the American League East standings, a win in the Bronx tonight would secure the division for the Red Sox, at the home of their historic rivals. Boston's team is on the verge of setting some historic records of its own this year.
Come down to the pub and enjoy a burger and a beer while you watch the game in comfort.

King of Rome, from north Nottinghamshire, are Martin John Carey, Ian Clegg and Pete Heron. Mixing English, Irish, and American folk traditions with a touch of skiffle and country, they're a genuine 'East Midlands' outfit. Songs featuring Derby and Nottingham are just as likely to appear in the gigs as songs about Nashville or Manchester.
This is a special gig as part of 'We Shall Overcome', a national network of gigs raising funds and support for local good causes. Over 150 g...igs this year alone, and over 800 to date under the 'We Shall Overcome' banner have helped to put something back where austerity has taken away.
Good music for a good cause.
In our case, the gig on October 7th will be taking donations - in both cash and food - for the Grantham Food Bank. Please bring and give what you can.

A huge "thank you" to everyone who took part in our Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning on Saturday. Over £300 was raised, and some very, very tasty cakes were eaten.
Congratulations to Peter Stokes for winning the 'Great Croxton Kerrial Bake-Off' trophy for his plum cake. The standard was very high and our judges were very full of cake. Peter has taken the trophy home for the year, and we'll do it all again next September.
Special mention to Megan for this spectacular sponge cake...

User

Just a reminder that our coffee morning for Macmillan is tomorrow, Saturday 15th. Please come along and help us raise funds for such an important cause by eating cake and drinking coffee - couldn't be easier!

Today's Sunday Lunch menu. We do have some tables available still, if you're tempted by the prospect of a giant tiger prawn (seriously, we mean giant, they're like a foot long) and Glenfiddich creme brulee...

Rather unusually, we have some tables available for Sunday lunch today. Give us a call on 01476 870350 to.book.

One week from today, this amazing trophy could be yours....

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. People all over the world host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone over £27 million was raised.
At the Geese and Fountain, we're holding our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday 15th September, 2018, so as to avoid clashing with other events nearby later in the month.
Everyone is welcome to enter our cake competition - bri...ng along a cake you've baked (or bought), one slice goes to the judges and the rest of the cake will be sold to help raise funds for Macmillan. The winner will receive "The Great Croxton Kerrial Bake-Off" Trophy to keep for a year.
There'll be lots of other stuff going on, we'll be selling cakes, cookies and flapjacks, and tea and coffee (of course), but also running competitions and inviting people to buy raffle tickets.

Yeah I know the pub is running as a work in progress, but to me its progressing with all the right ingredients. The landlord/landlady are putting in all efforts to make people welcome and giving their all with that, that to me is the fundament of this pub, and its impressive. It doesn't matter if the food area comes in later for now they are bringing this pub to the public to join in, participate and feel part of it ...I would highly recommend :) Thank you and all the best wishes that it will become the pub you are working so hard to create, for all and everyone ;) I have a few friends from down south already booked in the rooms in August and I think they will appreciate it too :)

User

We had a fantastic stay with friends at The Geese and Fountain this weekend. We came as part of a group of five who had used the pub as a stopover-destination on a two day cycle ride.

We were given such a warm welcome from our hosts! The beer was great after a long ride and we were delighted to be able to put our bikes safely away in a specially designed area. Fantastic food for our evening meal - all with locally sourced products, cooked beautifully. A small, thoughtful menu which changes regularly. Really comfortable rooms to stay in overnight (with a velux window that allowed us to 'sleep under the stars'!) and another super-delicious meal for breakfast the following day.

Can't wait to return to sit in front of the roaring fires! Above all is the sense that everything has been put together with such love and attention to detail to support both quality and sustainability - I can't recommend highly enough. Thanks for a brilliant time, and we'll be back :-)

User

There’s a wide range of beers and gins to choose from. I was driving so, on Nick’s recommendation, I had a fake gin that turned out to be very nice so I had another . We stayed for dinner and I’m very glad we did because it was proper home cooked food. It was absolutely delicious and I can highly recommend that you try it too.

User

The friendly atmosphere generated by Nick and Kate is so special, the food is absolutely amazing. We had two big family meals in two days this weekend, and just loved it. Hoping to sample their accommodation next weekend. The music nights are awesome. A very wholesome and positive place, with an ethical approach and the most amazing range of local beers I have ever seen.

User

Sublime homemade food fit for kings I would recommend anybody to join you for food

So we went for a Sunday drive and stumbled across this little gem! High tea for 2, so much food we had to bring some cakes home! Everything was homemade and fresh as you could want. The sandwiches were wonderful, the scones were oven fresh, and the cakes were to die for!!

The drink range was unreal, will be looking at getting a room one night so we can both enjoy the full range.

The staff were friendly and really helpful, the atmosphere in the pub was lovely. Could not have asked for a better find and we will most definitely be back! Thank you to all the staff for making us feel welcome and for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

User

Our local, absolutely awesome place, great owners & staff, awesome ales, fantastic foods, amazing atmosphere, great times

Omg. THE best roast I’ve pretty much ever had! I couldn’t finish it. I feel really annoyed with myself! . Huge thanks. Highly recommended x

User

My parents are visiting us from Gloucestershire and are staying here so we all had a meal here. We all had the steak and ale pie which was delicious! The steak pieces were huge and melt in your mouth. The creamed mash was delicious too. There is a great selection of beers and ale to choose from. Since taking over the owners have put some real effort into the restaurant area to make it a lovely, cosy space. Food is reasonably priced. Well worth a visit if you're passing through or live in Grantham or surrounding areas. We will definitely be visiting again and next time we'll bring our two hounds! Huge thumbs up for being dog friendly!

User

Maybe I'm biased because I work here but I love this little cosy pub. Nice place to go to for a few drinks. Even if you go alone you still get to talk to people and feel welcome. Sunday evenings are lovely there's live music on most Sundays from 5pm and everyone comes together. Great place to make friends and have a chilled evening all the staff are lovely!

User

Live in Grantham and we fancied a change. We literally just got in the car and drove in whatever direction took our fancy looking for a nice village local.

We stumbled across the Geese and Fountain and I am so happy we did!

My partner and I had a high tea and coffee for two which was absolutely spot on! (We were told we were the first to have it as only just gone on menu).

With the range of drinks absolutely wonderful too (going to try the after dinner mint vodka when I'm not driving).

Staff were great especially the gent behind the bar that served us.

Will definitely be back lots

I highly recommend that anyone and everyone goes here!

User

Just been for Sunday lunch. Was cooked beautifully. The pumpkin and cider soup was delicious as was the maple syrup and mustard gammon, the beef and the leek cheese. Welcomed from booking the table to leaving. Lovely staff too. Will become regulars I'm sure. Go on give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

User

I love this place, great for coeliacs. Extensive gluten free menu, all food prepared by hand on the premises, the gf fish & chips is a real treat.

User

Had drove by on many occasions from Melton mowbray and finally got the time to pop in! Staff were so welcoming and created a nice relaxed atmosphere, where we felt comfortable to have our young kids with us. A little selection of toys and a great selection of books was a nice touch. The lunch was fantastic! Bacon, Brie and cranberry panini was made with the best ingredients (bacon lovely and thick)and the chips were perfection to our tastes. The kids fish fingers and chips wasn’t just your standard “birds eye” either, beautifully fresh kids meals was lovely surprise . After seeing the selection of 45 Gins and wide range of whiskeys we are definitely going without the car next time!

User

Friendly landlord, relaxed atmosphere, great cider and delicious food. Definately on our list of favourite eating places.

User

After a ring around ended up here for our Sunday dinner. Although at £14.50 for two courses probably a little dear it was well worth it. Lovely friendly atmosphere and a lovely setting. I drive past this place everyday practically and often look in. It’s worth a visit. Dog friendly for walkers etc
