Kamov KA-26... our very own Thunderbird 2!
Could be fitted with a detachable cargo platform, chemical hopper, a small cabin (pictured) or be used as a flying crane!

Bus tours of Weston's historic aviation sites this Sunday (9th) from the museum...
As part of our 'Vintage Wheels Rally', visitors can ride a classic bus to some of Weston's most historic aviation sites with one of our knowledgeable tour guides on board. Highlights will include the now defunct RAF Locking and WW2 shadow factories later used by Westland Helicopters.
The tours are included in normal admission to the Helicopter Museum and begin outside the restored WW2 era control tower & pilots block.

This Pyrene Foam Fire Extinguisher was purchased by Weston Airport circa 1935-36 for use against flammable liquid fires where foam rather than water was the safer suppressant as it smothered petrol, oil and similar airfield fire hazards.
It's now on display with further information as part of the Weston Aviation Exhibition following restoration by museum volunteers Ray Dunn, Ray Cambers and Roger Denmead.

Went for the Santa day today and thought the place was excellent. Really made an effort for the children. The admission price was well worth it as well as with gift aid you can get in free for 12 months! An absolute bargain, really enjoyed it as well.

User

We went to see the beautiful American classic cars in the morning (and having learnt from these type of events before) got there as early as we could. We weren't disappointed. Some stunning looking show quality vehicles followed by a walk around the museum and a picnic lunch.. a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning in a very friendly environment, we'll go again.

User

We had a lovely few hours yesterday visiting the helicopter museum. It was great fun using the dress up props in the bunker. The children loved it and the staff were very friendly

User

We come to this place many years ago and my son remembered it and wanted a re visit. He 21 today. We was not disappointed with any off it. We noticed that there was loads more helicopters on display. Oliver got to set in one was told all about this one. When he put the helmet on he looked the part. We even watched the battle seen. This was great to watch old fighting over cider making. Got most off it on film. We be glad to come back again.

User

Visited today with my son, who's visited before wanted to come again, so he had a helicopter ride for the first time and he loved it. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, and the cafe and gift shop were fab, we will definatly be returning as we were given a free entry for next time.

User

Very enjoyable day out, staff are very friendly and informative. What with the Helicopter World Speed Record aircraft on display its well worth the entrance fee.

User

Staff were really friendly. My seven year old had a great time (and so did I). I'm sure we'll be back before long.

User

Recommended to everybody. Visited as a family of four. We all loved seeing the helicopters and my two year old was truly awestruck! Very useful to have the children's play area and cafe which, although somewhat dated in appearance, were perfect for basic needs. We will certainly visit again. Additionally, I was on crutches for the visit and access was easy in all areas. Was even offered use of a wheelchair upon entry! All staff we met were very friendly too.

User

Our first ever visit to the helicopter museum, And we absolutely enjoyed looking at all the different helicopters, my son who is 7 years of age absolutely enjoyed sitting in some that were open to the public to sit in and look at. The price to get in was really reasonable, we were ever so pleased with the pricing. Definitely will be taking another trip again at some point!

User

I was so impressed with how well presented this place was, the information given was fantastic both for young and mature

Would highly recommended this place as a family day out you will be amazed and the staff are also friendly

User

Friendly relaxed informative place. Took my 3 and 5 year old who loved it especially playing in the small playground with a helicopter to play in. Staff very friendly and eager to help. Shop had many cheap items to spend pocket money on. Well worth a visit.

User

Fantastic place to visit well worth the money and the staff are very polite . My kids were mesmerised by all the different helicopters and happy to walk round looking at the helicopters and even to play in the helicopter that was provided for kids to play in . Smiles all round x

User

Excellent, Ann and the other staff very helpful. i had my trip to spectacular Cheddar Gorge caves and it was fabulous. Ann and the other staff wonderful.

User

Done on a budget as totally funded by charity.such enthusiasm from the staff kept my children enthralled and me as well. The chap giving us the cockpit tour must've been sat in that helicopter all day but still had time and patience for everyone that sat next to him.

Not a whole day out but on the rainy day we visited, perfect.

User

Brilliant day out, ideal to take family/children. Went for their World War II event so double the things to see as well as the helicopters

User

A fantastic exhibition of very lovingly restored collection of rotary wing aircraft. Very surprised to see a β€œHind” 24. What an absolute beast. Well worth it, highly recommend.

User

My first visit to the museum which I enjoyed very much.

There are exhibits from the beginning of Helicopter flight although it would be nice to be able to get inside one or two examples.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, one even suggested I become a volunteer!

I look forward to examples of chinooks pumas apaches etc being at the museum.

A great place I shall return to thanks

User

Me and wife and our boy of 2half loved it very friendly plenty of helicopters also watched one take.cafe was cheap and had the pilots breakfast and wife had panini which we really enjoyed.little gift shop. only thing I would have liked to seen more of the inside the helicopters so we could have sat in them front and back other then that was good day really enjoyed it

User

I'd been looking forward to visiting as it was something we'd missed last time we were in the area. I wasn't disappointed. Simply a great collection of helicopters from basic, early flight machines to huge military helicopters. I love the simplicity of the museum. There is also the control tower building, which houses a small aviation museum, as well as a few other exhibits outside. At Β£7.50 each to get in, I think it is well worth it.
