The Hunters Rest Inn Description
Conveniently located for Bath, Bristol and Wells, this privately owned free house is renowned for its homemade food, well stocked cellar and warm welcome. In Winter log fires crackle in the hearths while in Summer our landscaped gardens are ideal for a cooling drink.
The Hunters Rest Inn was originally built around 1750 as a hunting lodge for The Earl of Warwick.
The Earl picked his site perfectly, set in beautiful countryside high on Clutton Hill with commanding views over the Cam Valley to the Mendip Hills, and over The Chew Valley to the port of Bristol.
In 1892 The Earl sold his vast estate in Somerset, the former lodge became a smallholding and tavern supplying refreshment to the growing coal mining community.
Over the years mining died out but the small Inn evolved to become one of the most popular in the area.
The Hunters Rest successfully combines the character and atmosphere of a delightful country Inn with the high standards and ameneties expected by todays guests.

Tonight, at short notice (after being let down elsewhere) the staff at The Hunters Rest accommodated 30 of us for a meal to celebrate my sons 21st birthday.
It was faultless. As you can imagine there were many different meals to prepare but each one arrived hot, freshly prepared and delicious!
All members of staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and....patient!
Excellent service, food and atmosphere!
Highly recommend...
Thank you all.. xx
Stunning scenery, amazing food, very helpful staff, comfortable rooms. Highly recommend.
Stopped off at the hunters rest for Sunday lunch we were able to get a table for two at lunchtime
The roast beef dinner was fantastic beautifully cooked beef and lovely veg, washed down with a great pint of Butcome bitter for me and a large glass of rose for Sharon, friendly bar and kitchen staff, highly recomended.
Stayed here when working nearby. The room was lovely and comfy, big bed, all amenities. Nice meal in the evening, I was given a breakfast tray as I was leaving early for work, which was appreciated. The staff were friendly and helpful. Hopefully I will be able to stay here again.
Really enjoyed the meal especial the mushroom on toast starter. Lovely country pub atmosphere. Friend staff. Will be returning
One of if not the best places I have stayed, food is 5 star rooms great, somewhere to sit and watch tv instead of lying on the bed, staff can't do enough to make your stay any better 12 out of 10 a must visit place. This is one place im defiantly coming back to Well done a great team
Lovely meal great menu and excellent pub
It was very nice the fish pie was lovely and the beef and ham ploumans was lovely
Hard to find an inn that'll take dogs, but The Hunters Rest does, (£10 extra). Good, clean and comfortable room with a tassimo type hot drink maker. Food was very good, tasty and well priced. Highly recommended and next time we're down that way we will book again.
Found this gem while take a country drive - spotted a small sign which said this pub was at the next turn off and then after following more signs along country lanes we found it (very easily).
My husband and I enjoyed a Sunday roast followed by desert with some lovely green views. We will definitely be coming back again.
Food is always amazing and fantasic place to sit and spend a evening
Always brings a smile to my face coming here to eat/drink, so much character and simply stunning this time of year, was hoping for a little snow to get some snaps with the family up on top of Clutton Hill...... maybe next year..... thanks to Sally and the rest of the staff for being as welcoming as ever..... would highly recommend
We’ve been goin on & off for 40 odd yrs. yesterday 4 of us went for lunch. The food as always was very nice, the staff very nice. There was one blip yesterday. Waited at bar at one point for rather long time, chap was doin something with Till & bar lady on phone doin bookings. No harm done really
We enjoyed our visit with friends - can't fault the food it was lovely. Staff were friendly too. Just one thing and the reason why I didn't give it 5 stars - there was mess left from an animal of some sort (most probably a wild animal) left everywhere in the grass around the kids play area which made us quite restless about where the children were running around! It wasn't very pleasant. Wasn't any fault of yours but unfortunately we just couldn't relax as we wanted to! (not to mention the number of wasps - think we managed to catch 5 altogether!) I will definitely be coming back but will probably sit inside next time! Lol
Lovely meal friendly service ...amazing choice of drinks
Fab pub for families in the summer as a huge garden with play area. My only concern is the play equipment is a little tired and wobbly, we aren't worried about our 3 & 6yr old but it could do with a little updating and safety checking! Food has been good and great customer service. Thanks!
Stopped off at the hunters for a pint ,beer was nice, but the bar taps were filthy especially the kronrnbourg tap looked like none of them had seen agood clean in year, very off putting which makes you think what the kitchen must be like.
It's a lovely location but looks very tired inside threadbare upholstery and the baby changing room is very dirty and full of flies. The food however is very good and lots of choices but limited vegetarian options
Took my family out for Mothers Day lunch and whilst food was nice, we had to cancel a child's meal, which was served to us anyway. But the real issue I have is with the way the bill was presented - scribblings on a piece of paper that make no sense or give a breakdown of the items! I had no idea what I was paying for and asked for a proper bill, but was told I'll talk you through it if you like - simply not good enough in this day and age - disappointing.
