Here at the Travellers Rest we take great pleasure in serving good value for money food, made fresh to order, using locally sourced products.

The Travellers Rest Description

The Travellers Rest has been in the village of Witton Gilbert for a very, very long time. Throughout its time it has seen several different managers come and go each bringing there own style & personality to the business. It went through a complete refurb at the end of 2014 and was taken over by a new owner and a full compliment of new staff .
The new manager & head chef brought a lot of new and fresh ideas to the business to help it compete with other bars & restaurants in the surrounding areas.
The Travellers Rest has a range of Cask Ales which are kept to the highest quality by the manager and they now has a Cask Marque award of excellence for the ales.
There are a range of offers on meals including 2 for £14 at lunch and the "Beat The Clock" menu which starts at 5pm from Monday To Thursday, the specials are refreshed weekly and are varied from fish, different meats and vegetarian options.

Went to this pub on Saturday afternoon with my elderly mam and sister. been loads of times before.was a little dissapointed coz the menu had changed since my last visit but stayed anyway.we ordered food and was lovely coz my mam only likes a small portion so she was allowed to order a child's portion which by the way was still quite big.my sister who only eats gluten free ordered the Caribbean chicken with rice and when it arrived it looked spectacular and she said it tasted spectacular aswell.she said it could have had a bit more sauce on it but she still wanted the recipe off the chef please.i ordered the gammon with all the trimmings and when it came it was delicious especially the garlic and mushroom sauce that came with it.would definetly recommend the food here and I apologise for been dissapointed at first glance at the new menu 20 out of 10 for the food and the service

User

Popped in tonight and hadn’t booked a table to be told they were expecting a large party in so no space for us. We had ordered drinks by this time so wasn’t happy, then a waitress told us if we could get our food order in quickly we could be served.

So we said yes and she showed us to our table.

We ordered our food and it came about 15 mins later. I had the scampi and hubby had lasagne and they were both big portions, looked and tasted lovely !

The service was fab with cheerful, smiley waitresses ! the food was fab and we both enjoyed our night.

Thanks for great service !

User

Popped in today for lunch with my mam after i've not been for a very long time and was really impressed, staff were lovely, nice fast service and meals were really nice and large portions considering we had the 2 for £14 deal. Lovely to have such a nice pub just down the road from work, may have to bring the girls down on our next staff night out .thanks

User

Popped in here as we were passing last Sunday, my wife and I had a Sunday dinner....this was around 3 o'clock. To say it was an impressive plate of food is an understanding, not only was it lovely, but I never ate anything else for the remainder of the day. The waiting staff were lovely and quick to serve us, we would definitely eat here again.

User

Lovely Sunday lunch great service and I think a good gravy makes a nice dinner and it was fab. Definitely return

User

I’ve been a couple of times and have to say, one of the best local pubs serving food around. Service is always friendly, good choice on the menu and everything I’ve tried so far has been delicious. Staff are helpful and attentive without being overbearing. I’m a fussy eater and often mix things up wanting sides from one dish with the meat from another and the restaurant have always been very accommodating. We went around 6pm and it was quiet so service was very quick, when we’ve been before and had a little wait for food complimentary bread and conversation with the staff has followed making the visits always enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit. My go to place when friends are visiting from now on.

User

Excellent Sunday dinner, very tasty. Nothing was a problem for the staff and everything was fast considering how busy it was!

User

Booked here for my Mother & Father in laws 55th Wedding Anniversary and both food and service was outstanding. My mother in law loved it so much she returned with her friends and once again remarked about the good atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff and stated the food was the nicest she’d ever had.

User

Beautiful pub, great food and friendly welcoming service. If you're there on curry night, get the onion bhaji!

User

A really good find , nice inside and with good service. Best of all the food was great , I had the black and blue burger and honestly it's one of the best burgers I've ever tasted , all our meals were well presented and well cooked and well priced .

User

*Edit* after leaving a bad review having a bad experience the manager adrian emailed me apologising, he kindly offered us a free main meal for 4 and bottle of wine as a good will gesture, which we went for tonight, What a complete contrast!!! Service was 5* couldnt fault it from the drinks order, food, timing they where all fab, complimentery bread on the table atmosphere was great it was like a different place, very much enjoyed our experience this time round and it has restored any misgivings that happened previously thanks alot we will definately return and recommend

User

We have been going to the Travellers Rest for a while now, as it is our local pub. The food is lovely, and the decor inside is nice. However, the last couple of times that we have been we have sat in the beer garden due to the nice weather. I’m sad to say that the beer garden is looking slightly unloved. The grass seems to be overgrown quite often, and the tables need to be painted or varnished. It’s such a shame as it is such a lovely spot. A few little touches would bring the place up to standard again

User

I had the fish stew containering lots of small potatoes loads of black olives 2 pieces fish 2 prawns in a thick tomato sauce very un happy with this dish

User

Had lunch time sandwich’s that we’re sold as made with bloomer brown bread , when they arrived just on plane thin bread , was very nice but not what was on the menu..

User

My granddaughter had the nut veggie lunch and loved it but I had the Sunday lunch the meat was lovely but the roast potatoes were dark brown (how dark do they need to be to be burnt) and the gravy was gloppy and really strong in taste. Pity

User

Had to send a meal back, smelt off. Lasagne not very tasty and steak pie extremely salty 😔

User

Called in today late lunch I opted for mince dumplings mash and garden peas ! I think the peas were last weeks or through the microwave twice , so dry and hard . Mentioned they were hard /dry to waiter asked could they be taken off he did no apology just returned plate of mince dumpling and potato

Need some customer service training !!!

User

Went in tonight and ordered a chicken fajita meal. Food was served pretty quickly and looked lovely. As I was trying to eat my food the waitress started to move my plates about the table, telling me where and how I should have them placed. Totally belittling me in front of a family of 3. I'm 34, I don't need to be told how to eat and I was embarrassed by this. I got up, paid for my food and left the pub. I'll never go back there again.

User

Sadly an awful experience today.

Booked a table for my 30th meal with friends and family. 10 of us and a baby in total.

At first I tried to order a cocktail to be told they don't offer cocktails...!

Ended up ordering a lemonade on my own birthday due to lack of choice.

The food was okay but Yorkshire puddings like bricks, asked for extra gravy when the meal arrived, nothing brought to the table.

Husband asked for tartar sauce, this arrived slowly and after over half the food was consumed.

3 kids burgers ordered 2 with cheese and 1 normal burger. All 3 brought to us with cheese. This was eventually taken off the bill at the end after a fresh burger was made however this didn't arrive until 1 hour 20 into our meal.

1 kids burger meal was to have sweet potato fries, these were shown on the bill at the end but never provided despite asking the waitress for a replacement.

Even just asking for mayonnaise or ketchup took a very long time to arrive.

The food was okay, didn't taste fresh, and service very slow. Not at all what we'd expected from a very empty pub restaurant!

When asking for further drinks these were slow at arrive or didn't arrive at all. Personally, I had to ask for a lemonade 3 times before I received my drink order.

At least this provided some entertainment as we started to laugh at how bad the service was.

When the bill arrived we'd been over charged for drinks we'd requested and not received along with drinks we'd not even ordered. The lady serving us stated that she'd remove the wrong items from our bill as if she was doing us a favor not charging us for something we'd not requested/ ordered.

Sadly this is my local and I'll not be back in a hurry. I now understand why it was so empty.

Save yourself money and hassle by popping to the fabulous Glen a few doors down, ordering a nice drink and a toastie.

My granddaughter had the nut veggie lunch and loved it but I had the Sunday lunch the meat was lovely but the roast potatoes were dark brown (how dark do they need to be to be burnt) and the gravy was gloppy and really strong in taste. Pity

Had to send a meal back, smelt off. Lasagne not very tasty and steak pie extremely salty 😔
