The staff here always do their best to make up for very challenging state of the infrastucture and facilities which are long overdue for a redevelopment , this week is no exception ! Salted the car park after it froze over in freezing sleet , sat in a very draughty reception wrapped in coats, made sure the place was clean though cold because boilers are not working again , ...but they run an excellent fitness programme , with great instructors , fab gym and tennis facilities and try very hard to please their visitors and members ...,perhaps we should thank them more !

Enjoyed a lovely after hours night swim tonight after the staff went home and locked us in, at first we was scared then thought we may aswel make the most of it make a bad a good and had a lovely time managed to find the button and got all water appliances working and loved the flume, admittedly it wasn't the fastest flume but all good fun big thanks to the staff for locking us in

User

This is second time I been to the dip and dine with my son and boyfriend pool temperature fine we stay in for a hour half waves fun staff all around pool even checking the water at different times floor little bit dirty buy showers nothing to bad only where people getting in and out lockers 20 p cheap cheerful cheese burger and chips and Pepsi all cooked fine will be back again in 2 weeks some growing in confidence each time

User

The pool was lovely and warm but main slide not open. The sides of the pool were very slippery and felt grimy. Changing rooms were quite dirty and two out of three we tried didn't have a lock. The toilets were disgusting and stunk to high heaven. The cafe staff were not terribly friendly and I paid £4.50 for a plain burger and a handful of chips, although did taste nice. Was supposed to come with salad but had to ask for this. .... overall the pool was ok and was lovely and warm.

User

The ladies toilets smelt worse than a mens pub toilets the changing rooms were gruby the pool chlorine was too strong to the point of our 6 year old had to be taken outside and have his eyes washed out ! I could go on but i wont bore you all it wasnt a nice experience i will stick to ramsgate or hartsdown in future !

User

Seriously, £3.30 for a toastie that had one slice of processed cheese and 2 slices of wafer thin ham! Although the salad did look nice, what I've seen from some of the comments, I'm not sure I wanted to try it.

Oh and when it says on the menu, toast and eggs... don't think you can choose how you want your eggs done! It's scrambled or nothing.

Would love to sit in the cafe with the various people I work out with but it's just not great. Older staff member not friendly at all .... probably have to pay more for a smile!

cold water in the pool, dirty changing rooms

swimschool not very good either

User

We arrived today to have a lovely Sunday swim with our 16 month old.

I rang up beforehand to ask for the temperature of the pool which, they assured me, was a balmy 30 degrees Celsius. When we got into the pool my daughter immediately started shivering and even we were cold!

We sat in the baby pool, we also tried the main pool and bubbles, none of them were any warmer than the last.

Eventually, after only 20 minutes in the pool, my daughter was shivering so badly and turning blue that we had to call it a day.

Upon leaving, we requested a refund for our £11 (extortionate even with student discount) but were told that the pool was the "acceptable" temperature.

Please, explain to me what is acceptable about a 1 year old turning blue in a "child friendly" pool? Or being told that we had effectively "imagined" the freezing temperature of the pool we were also in?

If anyone actually reads this from Tides, I would love to have some contact from you to arrange our refund?

User

Travelled down from Hampshire to visit family my son was really excited about going to tides and on the big red slide. When we arrived there was a notice saying slide was closed, that's fine these things happen. But then we had a 40 minute wait. Finally went to the changing rooms. They were discusting dirty just hideous. The toilets were awful too. We the get to the pool. Floating plasters, rubbish, missing tiles. The place looked tired and in urgent need of some tlc. The little kiddie slides didn't work very well as the water shoots weren't working. Overall very disappointed and will not be recommending to anyone to go there or attending there again

User

The pool temp has been too cold for younger children it's been an on going issue for ages!! For the price you pay to go swimming as a family I find this unacceptable!

User

The menu is terrible. All fried and processed junk served on polystyrene plates with plastic forks. Food should be at the forefront of health. The "healthy option" was sugary reheated pasta. The manager refused to swap the pasta for a half jacket potato. For the same price in town you can have a fresh, healthy lunch - the pop up cafe.

User

Personally I feel a one star is too good for today’s visit!

The amount of chlorine in the pool was I’m sure a health risk. Burning and red eyes and an increasing tight chest from it.

Looked forward to the waves coming on and I could of made more waves in my bath. Lasting no more than 2 minutes and only slight ripples.

I haven’t visited Tides since I was a young lad and if I’m completely honest most probably won’t return to use the pool. I most definitely will not recommend a visit.

Real let down!!

User

Our trip to the pool today was cut short by an evacuation due to a strong smell of smoke filling the main pool area. I was spectating with my 16 weeks old and my husband and our two daughters were in the changing room, changing out of their swimming gear. No fire alarm went off. There was no drill. No one showed customers where the fire exits were. No one knew what they were doing. There was simply one announcement made over the tannoy to swimmers to evacuate the pool. After finding my own way outside, I called my husband to see where he was and he was still in changing rooms with our 5 year old and 2 year old, totally unaware of the situation upstairs. No staff had thought to evacuate the changing rooms in the basement. In light of how strong the smell of smoke was (like a burning rubber smell) you would have thought an alarm of some description would go off. I shudder to think what would happen in that place if there was an actual fire! The staff looked lost (not their fault. An obvious training issue) and I was sickened at how poorly the whole thing was handled. People (tiny babies, children, elderly) left standing out in the freezing cold in wet swimming costumes waiting for someone to tell them where to go. A woman in a wheelchair unable to get down the stairs to the fire meeting point in the gym down a flight of stairs. No staff there to help the man with her as they were all clueless as to where to go or what to do. And to top it off, no head count done tallying with the number of people that entered the pool/building. We ended up just leaving after no one spoke to the crowds of wet people to give any instructions. No one stopped us. The lack of preparation is a danger to customers and I will never go to Tides again.

User

My one star is for the swimming facilities, if it was for the gym or classes it would be a five star rating, the gym is always clean and well cared for and classes are always fantastic, decent equipment etc

However today we used the pool for the first time, the pool wasn’t bad in itself except they lie about the temperature (they said 29 degrees )

The changing rooms are rancid, to the point we almost left there and then. Dry and wet mud covers the floor of the changing rooms, mud spread up the walls, dirt and leaves dragged in, why is no one cleaning it in there? Some chlorine water and a squeegee is all you need to keep on top of it.

The toilets are just beyond anything I’ve ever experienced, they are meant to be a sanitary area, especially in an establishment such as a swimming pool which you pay good money to use however they are the most revolting things I’ve ever come across. They stink to high heaven and had actual flies buzzing about in there, two toilets where blocked with poo and one toilet had actual poo smeared up the wall!! 100% poo as that’s where the flies where landing they need some febreeze, bleach, a mop and a cloth, I’m sure my membership can pay for that

Staff are always lovely though, not sure why whoever is in charge of hiring staff can not get a cleaner in there?

User

I'm very sorry to say that over the years I have been bringing my family it has been slowly going one direction down hill. Yes there is staff around pool side but not enough being done keeping toilets showers clean, after all the entry fee is not cheap! Wave pool was not working as it used to as when it was switched on, all the other activities stopped, obviously some of the pumps not working and waves not as strong. The lockers didn't work well either and insult to injury because of this lost more money as 20 pence pieces are retained. Would be grateful for a full refund as didn't stay long as the toilet floors were covered in urine.

Maybe I need to complain to the Health & Safety Executive as cleanliness is not a high priority. Worst pool I've been too lately, as I said been going down hill and needs sorting and this starts at the top whoever is the main manager. Do they know their responsibilities? Obviously not.

Very disappointed!

User

I'm giving the facility one star for the poor experience we've had over the past few weeks....

1. The water temperature over the past few weeks has been unacceptably cold. On a number of occasions now he has been shivering uncontrollably from head to toe and has started to turn blue when he finishes his lesson. Today, 28th February, was by far the worst – he was absolutely freezing by the time he finished his half hour lesson and he took a long time to warm up again. He wears a long-sleeved swim suit to combat the cold as much as possible. Given the current weather conditions I anticipated that it would be cold today so at 8.15 am I called to check to see whether the lesson would be on, and I was assured there was no problem with the water temperature. Low and behold when we arrive there was a notice explaining that the water was cooler than usual. After the lesson I complained to the lady manning the reception desk, to which I got a very half-hearted “its out my control, the boiler has been tripping out”. If this is the case why are you not cancelling the lessons? Small children should not be subjected to such cold temperatures when undertaking what should be a pleasurable swimming lesson. My child is not alone in finding the water temperature cold, today another older child got out of the pool 10 minutes early because of the cold, and several weeks ago a different child got out for the same reason. Today, one of the other parents was told that the water temperature in the pool today was 28 degrees – the ASA recommend that for children’s swimming lessons the temperature a maximum of 31 degrees – a 3 degree difference is considerable.

2. To further compound the issue of the cold water in the pool, the new showers are wholly inadequate. While they might provide a decent shower for a 6 foot adult, the water becomes a fine mist once it is at the height of a small child and is absolutely useless for washing under. Surely the swimming facility at Tides is predominantly aimed at children – why are none of the showers at a lower height. Even the controls to showers are located far too high for a small child to operate. This is not rocket science, surely a bit of thought could have been given to their design. They are also very cold. My 3 year old is in tears because he is so cold when trying to use them and as he has eczema it is important all we use the showers to remove the chlorine which tends to aggravate it.

3. A couple of weeks ago, a member of staff was pressure washing the walkway down to the changing room. Why on earth was such a rigorous cleaning activity being undertaken during opening hours? He was using a lemon disinfectant cleaner which was affecting the eyes of my father and my small baby. He had half completed the task when my son finished his swimming lesson and we had to walk through the debris to get to the showers – this was absolutely disgusting.

User

I was really disappointed again today. The water was really cold....again, and I don’t know if you had extra chlorine in the water but our eyes were badly stinging. My children and other young children could not breathe in the jacuzzi pool. They could not stop coughing and I thought my oldest was going to cough herself sick. It stopped as soon as they left this pool. I don’t call this a great family experience nor worth the £18.20 family ticket. Such a shame as it used to be a great day out

User

Chlorine was too strong to the point my eyes were so inflamed it cut my visit short. The wave machine came on and it was like ripples. Last time I went the waves were much more fun. Not sure wether I’ll be going again for a while.

User

Absolutley disgusted with the fact i was MADE to purchase armbands for my 4 year old as i had my baby with me. Upon looking at your website it only states that i can have 2 children under the age of 4 with 1 adult if 1 has armbands or a float. UNDER 4 not aged 4. Either change your t&c's or train your staff better. Spent £27 for a 20min swim as my baby got too cold. I will not be back ill stick to ramsgate where i dont have to travel and im not forced incorrectly into spending more money than need be!
