Too big and impersonal. The staff needs to learn to engage.

Very good club. Lovely pool, spa, sauna and steam room. Also plenty of machines in the gym with trainers on hand should you need help.

A scam dressed as a club. Don’t believe the sales pitch. Regardless of what flexibility they promise to get you to sign-up, there’s no chance of escaping when you want to leave. Paying over £200 per month for nobody to go.

The best gym iv ever been to ... so clean and staff helpful and friendly... and so well equipped

Spent a day here via my sister's membership. Fab facilities inc. well-equipped gym, pool, steam and sauna rooms. Particularly loved the yoga/pilates/stretch? class - instructor was lovely and v. encouraging. If I lived locally I would join.

Absolute joke - instructors walking around looking at themselves in the countless mirrors, all whilst customers are risking injury attempting lifts or exercises with bad form...

Nobody is actually helping those people who are genuinely trying, the "instructors" couldn't give two sh*ts!

It's a soleless, utterly pretentious environment where people are kitted out in the latest and greatest Under Amour gear, usually multi coloured leggings (yes, even the blokes), yet nobody breaks a sweat, well... unless their Instagram follower count goes down!

David Lloyd enforce an iron clad 12 month contract so they can literally take you for every penny they possibly can, no care at all for your progress throughout your membership -- zero individual customer service. And what's more, they bombard you with their spam emails telling you how great they are, honestly, nothing could be further from the truth!

If I could rate them less than 1 star, I absolutely would, I will gladly tell you and everyone I know never to join this corporate money grabbing disgrace of a business.

A club the suits everyone, with amazing facilities and staff. Family activities that everyone will love all under one roof.

David Lloyd, Excellent Members Club, good facilities, very good staff, the car park gets full, but it's not a deal breaker! the gym gets busy but don't they all. its a good sociable place to be a member at.
Cleanliness is OK, Full time cleaning staff. it could always could be cleaner that's the people traffic, people suggest all sorts being realistic, when you walk into the shower, and the cleaner has all the grates up and it scrubbing all the shower floors regularly, its good to see. sock fluff now and again, wear flip flops.
whats bugs me is the amount of time it takes to fix anything, months. the maintenance budget must be very low, Ive asked why. boring answer. they are slow, they suggest they are very proactive. I would suggest they can't run maintenance proactively at all, and need more experience or more budget. its one of the two. its not a deal breaker but disappointingly more of the brand letting themselves down.

One of the worst gyms/facilities I've been to. I don't mean this in terms of the facilities (which, on paper at least are good) it's simply the company's arrogant money grabbing, attitude to patrons paying almost £100 a month for membership. The staff on site are no doubt doing the best they can!

Overcrowding

Considering that this place is not a municipal facility, and given the cost of membership, it would be reasonable to expect a car parking space and a locker to use! Often not the case at peak times.

Cleanliness

The cleaning team obviously work hard, this is clear whenever I see them slaving away. The fact is however that there aren't enough of them. The gents toilets always smell (worse than a train loo), I'm not even sure that the urinals flush, there doesn't seem to be a working extractor fan. There's normally piss splatter all around the walls next to the urinals. The 'refurbished' showers often don't have soap and/or the incredibly cheap dispensers are normally broken. Patrons can request more soap by writing it in the scummy grime build-up present in nearly all showers, or perhaps re-arrange the hair build up in the plug holes to generate a message.

The jacuzzi is horrendous, you can often see that the water is brown in colour and there's sand (I dread to think where it comes from) on the floor.

Both the sauna and steam rooms are poorly cleaned, there algae under the seat-lips in the steam room and the sauna wood is stained brown/black with sweat.

The biggest treat for guests is walking through the grim wet "sock fluff" that marks the passage from changing room to poolside....

Maintenance.

Given the overcrowding, the high membership costs and the evident savings in the cleaning contract, one would expect David Lloyd to be on top of the maintenance. Sadly this couldn't be further from the truth.

The poolside has 4 showers (presumably to reduce the filth buildup in the jacuzzi/sauna). 1 out of 4 of these has been broken for well over a month, the remainder are in various states of disrepair; any temperature control indications have long since been worn away. Most people don't bother showering before using the facilities as it normally ends up in either hypothermia or burns. I understand though... showers are expensive 😡. There are often multiple showers in the changing rooms not working too, but by the time it's home time, no one cares!

Overall, I'd definitely recommend visiting the other gyms in town to make sure you want to commit to this car-crash of a facility. Those of us locked in contracts look longingly at the free citizens of york expectantly awaiting the day we can be free from the punitive contract 'escape' clauses.
