South Lodge

My husband and I thought we'd treat ourselves to a baby moon at South Lodge for a couple of nights. For the most part a lovely hotel with wonderful staff, but a few things let us down. The jacuzzi in the Bridle suite (where we stayed) spewed out a large quantity of black mould. I only realised as I switched the lights back on and turned the jacuzzi off - wasn't the nicest feeling seeing what I had been bathing in. For most of our stay, there was a dirty plate just outside our room (on a sideboard) that just didn't seem to get cleared away. When it did, it was replaced with a Henry hoover, which remained for the rest of our stay (not the biggest deal, but it just meant there was always something of an eyesore outside our room). When we had our room freshened up on the second day, we came back to find my pregnancy pillow removed from the bed (where I'd left it) and placed neatly on our dog bed. I can only assume the cleaning staff thought we'd brought a large, plush pillow for our dog? With plenty of pregnant guests staying at the hotel (wanting a comfortable night's sleep with their sacred and beloved pregnancy pillow free of dog hair), this might be something to flag to staff as I was quite shocked to see this. We had some lovely meals, especially at the Camellia restaurant, but one of the staff cleared my husband's plate away before I was finished, then proceeded to hover at our table waiting for me to finish the last few bites of my meal. It did make me feel uncomfortable asking her to come back once I was done, but ask I did. Finally, and this is a minor point, but my pregnancy massage didn't incorporate a foot massage - just a word of warning for other pregnant ladies who might be looking forward to getting their sore (and potentially puffy) feet pampered. Everything else was lovely, but I don't think I'll be rushing back.

We went for a wedding and it was absolutely spectacular!! We arrived the day before and I’m so glad we did! The spa is out of this world with an indoor, outdoor and natural pond to swim in. I would come back just for the spa. It was incredible. We also were able to eat at both restaurants. Again - totally amazing. The service and quality of the food was amazing, as well as the broad selection at breakfast. I cannot fault it, and they did an amazing job for the wedding as well. Would highly recommend!

Just got back from two nights away at this amazing hotel as part of our honeymoon. Complimentary upgrade which was a lovely touch. The spa is out of this world, the food was incredible and the service was perfect. Special mention to Cedric in the bar who we had a great chat with on our last night. It’s the people that make a great hotel in my opinion. We will be back. Thanks again

Fabulous food, amazing combination of flavours and textures, not a morsel out of place. Stephen Edwards locum here is a complete success, and his servers are incomparable. Could still do with some sound-absorbing wall coverings, to be completely honest, the noise levels raise as the room fills, and you have to raise your own voice to be heard.

Afternoon tea is spectacular and the variety of tea is impressive.

When you enter the hotel you feel like you are in a castle.

The small trails that are around the hotel are so beautiful and relaxing.

Simply visit if you have a chance, you won't regret

Wonderful hotel, staff were very friendly and professional, the whole place very comfortable and clean, stunning grounds! Can't wait to go again. The meal at the Pass restaurant was something to remember!

We went to a wedding breakfast at the hotel. The food was excellent, the staff polite well trained and the service was excellent. Highly recommended.

The Hotel was beautiful as were the grounds. We were attending a wedding event that included afternoon tea. The food was lovely and staff extremely attentive at replenishing things. Choices and dietary requirements were well accommodated for as well. Overall we had a lovely afternoon and the hotel is definitely somewhere I'd consider staying in the future.

An incredble venue. Beautiful views over the countryside. Staff were helpful and friendly. Food was very tasty especially the passion fruit mousse with dessert. The function rooms we used were elegant and perfect for the wedding anniversary celebrations.

Our room was amazing in size but had no views and as we found out in the morning was actually opposite a staff walkway, net curtains please! Shower could have fitted 10 people it was so big. Staff seemed a little flustered and busy but were always polite. Ate at the outdoor terrace bar/restaurant and the food was good. Gorgeous garden and view to enjoy in the morning.

What an amazing hotel!! All the staff were professional, the grounds / building very well maintained. Absolutely brilliant!!

Brilliant venue in beautiful surroundings. Excellent setting for a wedding to remember, although watch out on all the uneven floors if you're wearing heels! The staff were fantastic and a real credit to the company

Been coming for over 20 years and still love South Lodge. The Manager is amazing and absolutely goes out of his way for all the customers. One of my favourite places. Fortunate to have a superb Boxing Day lunch as a treat from my family, along with archery and clay pigeon shooting. The instructors were brilliant too x
