The Gym Chelmsford

I can only give it 4 stars for now as at the moment the gym is in process of modernizing with a popping 300.000£ buget. The itself gym is good designed with most the desired features required (from mass gain to fitness areas)...tho it is always too crowded and that's annoying. In 4 visits only once I could do a full end to end supers series using 3 machines.

Get in, get out. No fuss, no strings, but plenty of selfies, checking in and wasted time on machines/benches going on. It is fine for what I use it for, check Google for when stats on quiet times, and avoid them for me ;)

Good number of cardio machines and a wide variety of weights machines - so you're likely to be able to find a machine free for whatever you need. Machines are very low-tech (no rep count, basic HR monitors) but all of them are in great condition. People generally seem courteous and wipe the machines down afterwards. Only gym I've ever been to with shower cubicles that have doors rather than open stalls/communal showers. Lockers are great but you need your own padlock.

Absolutely can't beat the price, and 24/7 access is amazing. Also no minimum membership length which is nice to not be tied down!

Watch out for no joining-fee promotions!

Parking can be an issue but there are ways around it depending on what time you go but like most places in Chelmsford parking isn't free! I've been a member of other gyms which are at least double the price and I've had free parking for an hour. The cheap price makes up for it. If this Gym had free parking we probably wouldn't get a space as half of Chelmsford would be using it to do their shopping
It's clean and they regularly update the equipment.

Exactly what I was hoping for. Not too big and not too small. I recommend taking up the offer of the short induction to get you familiar and feel at home.

A good variety of people use this gym. No one should worry about feeling self conscious.

It's clean, friendly and of course 24hrs! Ideal for shift workers and those with random work schedules.

Friendly atmosphere, you don't feel intimidated, 24/7 openings and great classes.

It started out very promising after running a big campaign to "beat the increase" of one pound. Having signed up and my daughter and was just about to add my wife they pulled a very cynical stunt. A couple of days after the campaign stopped they changed a key part of the value offer in that the two hours free parking worth £2.50 was removed except for the hours 5pm to 10pm. Now thats great if you use the gym in that narrow time slot but for the rest of us it massively increases the cost of the membership. You have to park because of the rubbish location so a typical three times a week daytime user would add £7.50 PER WEEK to their supposed cheap membership.
A really cheap stunt to pull on new members. My daughters membership will be cancelled after one week and mine is soon to follow.

Love this place. Never too busy and good selection of machines. Get left alone to work out or staff on hand to help if required. Open 24 hours too so very good for after my night shifts.

The lockers look like they've been purloined straight from a secondary school, and the showers are infuriatingly touch/motion-driven - not great when you literally can't see the buttons because you're washing. So they have a habit of turning themselves off (or down to freezing cold) accidentally.

Aside from that, there are always tons of machines available, and for the price, it's fantastic.

It's good for the price but when it's busy you can't really get to use the equipment
